McLaughlin Elected
City Recorder
Earl McLaughliu wa elected city
recorder at a special meeting of the
council laxt Tuesday evening, to till
the vacancy caused by the resig
nation of M. I). Powell. The re
corderahlp was the only buslneaa
brought up. There were two candi
dates, lick Breeso and ' Earl Me
Laughlia and the two were voted
upon by ballot. All six of the coun
ctlmen were pr.xent and the ballot
resulted In a tie, each candidate re
ceiving three votee. Then Mayor
Stewart need hla prerogative of
casting a deciding vote, which be
did In favor of McLaughlin.
- Prlnevlllo has had four city re
corders this year. C. L. Shattuck
waa elected last December, but after
a few months service resigned. M. II.
Bell waa chosen by tho council, and
died while holding ofllce. Then Mr.
Powell wa requisitioned Into ser
vice aud he also resigned. Mr. Mc
Laughliu will eerve the unexpired
term, or until the man elected at the
regular city election to be held De
cemlier 20th qualities. Even with all
this force Mayor Stewart waa at
one time compelled to act In the ca
pacity of recorder during the year.
Mr. N. II. Lemon, who haa been
nursing Mr. White, left Sunday for
her homestead near Culver, where
she will spend the week.
Sunday morning at the Presbyte
rian church the pastor will preach to
the Sunday school. It wiil be In the
nature of an Illustrated sermon, the
school furnishing the music for the
occasion. Parent, and friends es
pecially Invited to this service. In
the evening the subject will be, "Up
a Tree and Down Again." The
cbolr will furnish special music at
this service. Orchestral music will
lie furnished during the evening.
