Paulina News.
Paulina schools opened Not. 1,
with thirty four pupils. There will
lw a term of six months. Mrs. V. V.
Hanley Is teacher.
Mrs. Sara Lytle, Taulina's poet
mistress, has been sick for the past
three weeks with typhoid fever.
Henry Faulkner is just recovering
from an attack of the fever.
We are having some pretty cold
weather in Paulina. We have had
several light snows, making the
young people thing of sleighing.
Mrs. Anderson and grand daughter
Hazel Ituthford were passengers on
the Saturday night stage from
Prineville. Mrs. Anderson came out
to nurse her daughter, Mrs. Elmer
Clark, who is quite sick with typhoid
fever. Mrs. Clark has been 111 for
two weeks.
John JUckman of the Beaver Creek
saw mill left here Saturday on his
way to South Carolina.
:J Beaver Creek's new school house is
nearly completed.
, . Mr. and Mrs Noris Morgan were in
Paulina last week. Mr. Morgan is
buying beef cattle. They left here
Sunday on their way to Prineville.
Mr. Charles Koberts is reported
sick this week. He was alone on his
farm below here. His wife and chil
dren being in Paulina for the winter
; school. "Uncle MeKim" of Taulina
h is gone down to help him.
Paulina Valley's school teacher
, has come out, and school will start
. now in a short time.

Bam Edmunds, from Walla Walla,
Waeh., went through this place Tues
day on his way to Dunsmuirr, Cal.
Light snow Wednesday.
W.. E. Ducliien has purchased a
phonegraph.
Opal Moore, the three-year-old daugh
ter of Ralph Moore, is ill this week.
George Lytle and Ralph Moore went
to Madras Tuesday.
Althea Vineyard went to Trout Creek,
Tuesday.
Orville Moore is sick this week.
In this vicinity there is . quite a de
mand for an instructor on violin or cor
net.
Three inches of snow Saturday.
The cold weather here has siren
quite a few people bad colds. Those
who were reported as sick last week
are all on the mend at this time
however.
George McFarland received the sad
news of his mothers' death la Seattle
on Thursday of last week. The
news came as a shock to Mr. McFar
land as he supposed his mother was
getting better right along. She was
seventy-seven years old and had "been
afilicted with rheumatism for a num
ber of years.
The Mud Springs school house will
be the center of attraction next Fri
day night when a basket social will
be held there- A lengthy progTttm
hits been prepared and the crowd
anticipate a Jolly evening. There is
an organized literary society in that
district which holds meetings twice
a inonth that are instructive as well
as enjoyable.
Mr. Lockhart, who lias driven the
stage from Heisler to Madras for the
past several years has had the po
sition of stage agent given him and
the new mail stage will now go on
his old run.
The man Mutheney who was so
free with his gun a few nights ago is
now in jail in Portland. The man
who was his partner In the "near
beer" joint will have to go to Port
land if the case comes up for trial
there. Matheney has some charges
of long standing that are waiting to
be brought up as soon as this case is
disposed of.
Mr. Akeyson acid family have
moved to their homesbead two miles
from Sagebrush spring's. Mrs. Akey
son had the boarding; house at the
springs and had an average of eight
boarders daily. The place is vacant
now and no one around here is In a
position to take the place.
Some of the farmers around here
are killing their hogs and the daily
bill of fare Is changed from smoked
ham and bacon to spare ribs and
sausage. The change Is appreciated
too as we were about to advertise
for a receipt to cook bjicon in a way
to make it taste like roast beef.
Some of the farmers have their
land all planted and they are ready
for winter whenever It Is Teady to
come. Others are hoping the cold
weather will wait a mouth or so
