Wc could argue the quality cf Columbia Indestructible Cylinder Records until a year from now but what good would it do if you could not prove it for yourself by coming: into our store and seeing and hearing it? We could print a whole newspaper every day about the special and original Colum bia processes of manufacture and get no where at all if the Records did not bear the evidence. COLUMBIA INDESTRUCTIBLE CYLINDER RECORDS won't break, no matter how roughly they are used, they won't wear out, no matter how often they are played. NaT Acqairt Orcfoa Trmnk Surrey. The Telegram of last Thursday eayi A complete surveying outfit of about 50 men, engineers, surveyors, chainmen rodmen, transitmen, etake and ax lien and the usual number of "lernei, was dispatched by the D. ft. Si X. for Shan iko this morning. This is the crew that U heading into Central Oregon to re-run the surveys of the upper reaches of the On-gon Trunk Line from about MaJrae frjna which point they will probably work both ways. Although such intentions are persist ently denied by Mr. lioschke, it h understood from reliabe sou reel that he will have his own men work over cer tain sections of Oregon Trunk Line rights of wav with a view of verifying data which indicates that the Oregon Trunk has much more favorable loca tions than Mr. Boschke's forces have been able to secure. This applies par tioularly to the upper reaches of the two contending project. (The divergence of the two surveys begins at the mouth of Trout Creek The Oregon Trunk survey follows the Deschutes river, and begins to climb just below the Warmspring lerry in order to make the grade into Willow- Creek Canyon, which it follows to Madras, coming out of the gorge on level with the flat comprising the Mad ras townsite. The Ilarnman survey swings up Trout creek to the gage liruHh Springs vicinity, then detours to make the climb onto the south end of Agency Plains, which it crosses just west of Madras and spans Willow creek gorge with a long bridge several linn dred feet above the level of the tow n site. It is said that the grades of the Oregon Trunk runs from Trout Creek to Madras on a 1.2 per cent grade with 8 degree curves, while the grades on the Harriman surveys have gradients of 1.5 per cent and with curvature of 15 degrees at certain points.) The Oregon Trunk has a further ad vantage as it taps at much closer range a highly productive territory in the Warrnsprings Reservation and the Matoles timber belt. The reputed object of the Harriman engineers in running over their rival's lines is to determine to a nicety just how much more favorable the Oregon Trunk Line surveys are. If it is found that they are sufficiently superior it is almoht certain that negotiations of some sort will be opened up between the rival railroad projectors with a view of ami cable settlement of the etragetic con troversy, as it is admitted that it would be worse than folly for both lines to be built into Central Oregon at this time. Porter Bros., who built the North Bank, are said to control the Oregon Trunk, but as yet they have shown no disposi tion to make overtures to Harriman, or suggest any terms under which peace may be obtained. pMHiiawBa l let, In spite of the story of the 8attle Time. The only semblance l truth In the Seattle rvxut which ltl that lion era! Manager O'Brien ha.! lot the f 000,000 contract to Twohy Bros., of Sh- kane, is that this contracting firm had complete camp equipment, grading out- tit and other paraphernalia available at SiKikane, and arrangement were made by the ll.irriinan construction de partment to have Twohy It in, send in their outfit and prosecute the building of the road muter what is known a the f'lrw account" plan. In other words Twohy Bros, w ill continue to work on the first section of the road piecemeal or by the day, until the reumininfr righta- of-wavonthe lower section of the road lave been secured and until thi survey maps for the three upper sections ol IK) miles have Wen approved by the Secre tary of the Interior. This may or may not cover the eutire 12,000,000 esti mate for the first 40 mile from the mouth ol the lk'tcliutes to Sherar'a Bridge. It was slated by Ocuer.il Manager O'Brien that it would be out ol the i)uetion for the company to enterUiu any proposition looking toward the let ting of a contract with the Ceutral Ore gon project in it present situation. Simply as a matter of convenience and to avoid any further delay in getting work under way, the "force account" ileal was made with the Twohy. As soou a the contractor had been instructed to go ahea I with the work thev called in a number of sub-con tractors and' it is sai.l, oned negotia tion with them to take some of the prospective work off their hands. It is known that the Twohy did take the matter op with some oilier contractor with w hom tliey had worked in building the North Bank road. "I suppose that is how the Seattle story arose, saul lr. O Brien, "for there is notion in the statement that we have let an contract. The Twohy probably informed the rahonlractor that that they had prospect of getting more or less of the construction work to do and were looking into the future. But tins is merely a surmise on our part. All we have done is to get a con struction crew into the field under the most satisfactory arrange uienla that could be made, so that th-To would lie no more delays. The work can now go on while the Government is unwinding the red tape over the survey map lor the upper sections of the road, and whilo we are si-curing what rigbts of way we still neetl."
