that he had the disease that is no w
prevalent in Bend. "Kvery man you
meet over there now has something
up his sleeve about the railroad," he
says. "Some Inside Information
which cannot be divulged. I brought
mine over to Prineville for a day or
two."
The Emporium Electric Theatre,
the new moving picture shows of
Frank E. Rroslns, opened up last
Thursday evening and has been
giving exhibitions each evening to
good crowds. Mr. Rroslns Is giving
the public a tirst-class show In every
resiect and several of the scenes
shown during the week have been
not only amusing but have carried
'an educational value as well. The
general admission Is only 15 cents
and those who have been attending
think they get their money's worth.

of several applicants for naturaliza
tion. Among these applicants were:
Fred Wlese, of Sisters, a native of
Germany; Wm. J. Roberts, of Grizzly,
a native of England; Charles Waw

liam J. Sayyeau, of Hnycreek,

the first grand ball given under the
auspices of the Prineville Commercial
Club. Morgan's orchestra will

Miss Cora Streitel, teacher In the
first grade of the Prineville schools,
departed last Wednesday for her old
home In the East. Miss Marjorle
Drink Is teaching her room.
J. A. Bernard!, boss plumber on
the courthouse Job, came up from
Salem last week to inspect the
plumbing In the new courthouse,
when the work wns finished. He re
turned home Tuesday.
Otto Hohlfeldt and John Thorn b
of Madras, are In town this week to
take out naturalization papers.
Mr. Thomas wns a citizen by virtue
of papers taken out by lis father,
but as his father's papers had been
destroyed In the government
records, he now find It necessary to
take out papers in his own behalf.

Tillman Keuter, one of the pro
gressive farmers from Madras, Is In
town serving on the petit Jury.
According to the Pioneer, Madras

C. F. McCalllster has opened up a
shooting gallery in the old Bucket
building. Me is offering as a prize a
fine guitar for the best scores made
by any marksman up to May 15.
T. M. Baldwin has gone to Port
land where he was summoned as a
witness in the federal court In the
case or the initea states vs. the
Southern Pacific railroad company.
Attorney Jesse S tennis and family
are In Prineville this week, Mr.
Stearns appearing as attorney for
the D. 1. & P. Co. in the five cases In
the circuit court brought by A. M.
Drake.
W. II. Wilmer of Madras, Is in
town on business before the county
court. Mr. Wilmer has acquired an
extensive acreage east of Madras,
having bought the old V. S. Cowies
ranch and later, adjoining school
lauds. He is fencing the property
and expects to raise blooded stock
on a large scale.
Both of the hose companies of the
Prineville fire department held
smokers this week, this being the
program for each regular monthly
meeting. No. 1 held theirs last Mon
day night and No. 2 Wednesday
night. Fire Chief B. F.Johnson has
been putting the boys through drill
lately.
P. Rabb, a special agent of the
Interior department, was ia I'rlne
vllle last Friday In connection with
the contest case of T. II. McGee of
Lamonta. The contestant, E. F.
Cooper, failed to appear, and tho
matter waa continued for sixty days.
Mr. McUhee, the coutestee, Carl Mc
Gbee and wife and B. B. Helfrich, all
of Lamonta, were In town as wit
nesses In the case.
