The new well at the power plant
In rdnevilk' has been completed and
Is gaid to be a line one. ThU well
was first drilled nnd a cavity exca
vated at the bottom by means of a
centrifugal pump. The cavity was
then filled with gravel and a double
dining with a cement tilling between
endings put In. This plan effectually
seals the well from the entrnnce of
any surface water. This well was
put In as an experiment, with the
Idea of eventually making all the
wells at the plant like it in case it
was gatlsfactory.
J. E. Iloberts was in from his "dry
farm" at Alkali Flat, last Monday.
Mr. Itobcrls Is the only farmer who
threshes grain between rrlnevllle
and Silver Creek, and he finds a
ready home market for his crops
among the rancheis who do not
harvest w heat, rye, barley or oats.
"People said 1 was crazy when I
started to farm out there," says Mr.
Roberts, "but I manage to take
some premiums at the county fair
aud can raise most anything on that
worthless laud." Mr. Roberts has
water for household purposes and
for stock, nnd irrigates a small tract
but no one has been able to strike
water by sinking a well lu that
neighborhood, and several settlers
have sold their claims to Mr. Roberts
because they had no water supply.

where he was called by the serious
Illness of his wife. Mrs. Bailey is
rupldly convalescing.
Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Boyce and
daughter, Mamie, came In from Hay
stack the first of the week. Miss
Mamie will remain In town to attend
the public school, the term at Bed
Rock district having closed.

Dr. J. It. Robinson, of Riddle, Ore

during the past week, looking over
Crook county In search of a location
for u physician. He made a trip to
Bend and saw what he could of the
country. Although there seems to
be no opening at present, he likes
this section so well that he Intends
to return when the railroad builds.
