The county court has granted
permission for the telephone com
pany to use certain roads under
specified conditions. The route
finally decided upon for the main
line runs from Winnek's store in
Prineville to the upper McKay
school house by way of the east
side cf tho McKay county road,
Each stockholder in the associa
tion will l-e required to put in
about one mile of line, but if the
membership increases, as is reason
ably anticipated, probably half a
mile of line will be enough for
each man to build.
The forestry cilice in Prineville
takes exception to a statement con
tained in the Journal last week
anent the use of a foresters' ex
change fourteen miles up McKay
creek, near the site of the old mill
The Journal pot its information
from the president of the telephone
company that communication with
Portland was to be had over a
foresters' line running along the
summit of the Clue mountains and
thence across the more level coun
trp to the baseol Mt. Hood. This
line does not exist.
At Saturday's meeting the tele
phone company decided to obtain
communication with Portlapd by
way of Shaniko.
