    CATTLEMAN GETS
GOOD PRICES
C. M. Lister It First Local Man
tc Favor New Sytem
of Marketing
C. M. Lister of the Ochoco valley
is the first cattleman in Crook
county to go on record in favor of
the new plan by which the Union
clock yards at Portland bars and
pays for cattle; in other words, the
elimination cf the buyer from the
field and shipments direct to the
stock jards at current market
prices. He pays the new plan is
more profitable to the stockman
and more satisfactory to the yards.
Having some eighteen carloads
of beef cattle to market this fall,
Mr. Lister shipped three carloads
under the new plan as a test, ac
companied hi cattle in person to
Portland and having now received
the returns on this initial lot be is
so well pleased that he will forth
with ship the remaining fifteen
carloads in the same way, without
awaiting the appearance of a buy
er. He says he received about $5
a head more for his cattle this way
than formerly nnder the old plan.
The elimination of buyers by the
stock yards eliminates also much
of the expense, giving stockmen
the advantage of this difference so
long as the packers do not combine
to their detriment.
over the kite-ehaped track; that is,
from Prineville to Bend, and back
to Prineville by way of Redmond,
a distance of SO miles. The time
was just 4 hours, cr 270 minutes
over country roads, some of them
rough, others good, yet others very
dusty. The leg to Bend by way of
Powell Buttea was covered in 2J
hours, Bend to Redmond in one
hour, and Redmond to Prineville
in li hours.
John Combs said afterward that
they "were going some."
LOCAL MENTION
Fast Time By Auto.
Max Wurzweiler, who has been
thinking of buying an automobile
for some time, with Deputy Sheriff
John Combs of this city, was treat
ed to an exhibition of speed in i
large Cadillac car this week which
not only smashed some standing
records but likewise convinced him
that an automobile is a very desir
ii Me kind of locomotion to possess.
It is not understood that Mr.
Wurzweiler has ordered a car yet,
but an addition to the array of lo
cal mobiles may reasonably be as
sumed in prospect.
lbe LaduJac in question was
brought in here by the owner, C. F.
Gilbert, of Hood River, and S. S.
Baldwin, of Portland. The trial
trip in which Messrs. Wurzweiler
and Combs participated was made
Spaulding -Vanderpool.
Bright and early this morning.
at the home of the bride's parents,
Dr. Elmer E. Spaulding and Miss
Addie L. Vanderpool, both of this
city, were united in marriage by
Dr. Dunsmore, pastor of the First
Presbyterian church. The bridal
party left by auto immediately af
ter the ceremony for Portland,
where they will reside for awhile.
A month ago, when Dr. Spauld
ing withdrew from the dental firm
of Davis it Spaulding, leaving Dr.
Davis in sole charge, it became
known that Dr. Spaulding was to
go to Portland to take a post-grad
uate course in his profession. That
he should take a wife with him
was a very logical thing to do, and
he and bis charming bride carry
with them best wishes from many
local friends.
Mrs. Spaulding, nee Vanderpool,
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Med Van ierpool, and has a number
of local relatives. She is a very
talented girl and has always been
a general favorite. For some time
she was employed on the staff of
the Prineville Review.
