The new Bchoolhouse is nearing completion. Shingles are now on and the building is taking on color. Soon we will have a dedication and then we can have school as we ought to hare. Friends ol Mr. Brown from Winona, Washington, were in the past week and looked over land here and went on up to Silver Lake. They ane expected back, however, in a couple of week?. Frank Glass has moved into his new office building. Part of E. L. Ivereon's goods have arrived and he has opened store and is ready to see his cus tomers. Mr. and Mrs. Schleimlein are late arrivals who have purchased land , northwest of town. A. A. Bonney, state organizer for the grange, was in these parts last week and talked up the matter to some extent. He will probably re turn in the near future to organize one. , . We hardly know whether to look for J. E. Lamb back from Ne braska in time to put in crop for this year or not, but if not we ex pect to see one of his sons and a neighbor with J. E. and another following later. Two young men, Childers and Ford, who have been clearing land for G. W. Davies, are now camped in town where they have' bought lota . and are now established citi zens of our community. A remittance of M. W. of A. lodge dues from Ernest Fredrick locates him at Warrendale, Ore gon, where be is cooking for the P. C. C. Co. He cooked five months for the W. S. Reclamation Serv ce at Hermiston. A light run of typhoid in which Mrs. Park is indulging is proving again the goodness of our Red mond neighbors. Dr. Belknap was called on Wednesday and the patient is doing nicely with but little fever. What made it worse in the beginning was the news that her mother was down with the same disease. Reports from Ot tumwa, Iowa, however are reassur ing, the physicians not entertain ing serious doubts as to her re covery. E. C. Park. Every hour I spend in this service is a labor of love. Every dollar I donate is a personal sacrifice. Have the faithful mothers of Oregon not earned your affirmative votes for their full and free enfranchisement? You ought not to be afraid of us. You are equipped with ballots. We are not. We are depending up on you to honor our flag of truce by voting Yes in our behalf in this unequal contest. You know you would only compel us to repeat this struggle in 1910 if you should fail us now. But we believe you will not fail. You have but to un lock the door to the closed citadel of liberty, leaving us free to choose for ourselves, exactly as you do, as to whether to vote or not to vote, at every succeeding election. Thus only can you acquit yourselves as freemen and relieve ub from further effort to secure equality with our sons before the law. BENNETT, Agent, Los Angeles, Cal., April IT, 1908. Portland, Oregon.. .- Reo captured worlds record non-stop-engine run, 4992 mile made In twelve days, two hours, thirty-live minutes; averaged seventeen miles to gallon of gasoline, and over seventeen milet per hour; fifteen gallons of water used In engine cooler. LEON T. SHETTLEIt. The above Is self-explanatory, except that it will lie necessary for you to stop and think what a wonderful performance this Is. especially with a two-cylinder car. This engine ran continuously for twelve days, two hours and thirty-five minutes without coming to a stop and the average mileage of this car was over four hundred miles per day. This distance of 4992 miles Is as far as from New York City to San Francisco and from San Fraucisco back to the Mississippi Kiver, and is as far as the average family car would be run In two seasons. This is simply another proof of the wonderful reliability of the Iteo car. This broke the previous record by eighty-six miles, the previous 'record lielng held by the Premier car, which we are also prond to represent, the best previous record having lieen l.'iOO miles lesss. Adding this to the fact that the Reo and the Premier were the only two cars costing under $m0 contesting for the Glldden trophy In the. Glidden tour of 1907, which passed through seven states at a. distance of almost 1600 miles, over mountains and all kinds or muddy roads, with a perfect score, and that Immediately after finishing this strenuous trip the Reo made a non-stop run from New York City to the Jamestown exposition, a distance of 500 miles, in twenty-three hours and twenty-four minutes. We certainly believe that this is positive proof that the Reo and Premier cars are the very best in their chiss for strength and reliability. E. G.
