State Returns Complete
The returns from the state pri
mary election are all in and show
that H. M. Cake defeated C. W.
Fulton for the republican nomi
nation for United States aenator.
Mr. Cake'a majority for the state
was 2487.
In the congressional race for the
Second district W. R. Ellis won
handily. He received 1 1,813 votes,
George Shepherd 8476, and T. T.
Geer 8275. The Pendleton states
man will therefore succeed himself
u representative in congress from
this district.
The race for the democratic
nomination for congress from this
district was very close. J. A. Jef
frey won by the narrow margin of
five over A. J. Derby.
R. S. Bean polled 40,807 votes
for the nomination of supreme
justice on the republican ticket.
He had no opposition.
C. B. Aitcbison has a plurality
of 678 over his opponents for rail
road commissioner.
J. W. Bailey, the republican
nominee forfood and dairy com
missioner, defeated his opponent
by 14,989 votes.
The Bend Bulletin goes out of
its way to besmirch the good name
of Prineville. It gives publicity to
rumors that are without founda
tion. It rehashes the "Shorty"
Davis tragedy and would make it
appear that Lark Elliott had
"implicated 22 persons living at
Prineville and vicinity, some of
them prominent business men and
Btockraieere." What not
James T. Robinson of Culver,
announces himself an independent
candidate for the office of county
judge. Mr. Robinson has lived
twenty-three years in Crook county
and is numbered among its pros
perous ranchers.

H. D. Dunham is in the city to
day from Post.
John Devin of Paulina, was in
town the first of the week.
M. A. Lehman and wife
O'Neil, were in town Tuesday.
S. A. Prose left on yesterday
morning's stage for Portland
Mrs. Z. M. Brown left the first of
the week for her home in Portland.
G. M. Cornett returned Monday
from a trip to The Dalles and
FoBsil.
T. M. Baldwin returned the first
of the week from a quick trip to
Portland.
Horace Knox returned home
Friday after a two weeks' visit
with relative here and at Poet.
Russel Wyatt, an attorney from
Albany, arrived Tuesday and will
assist in the defense of C. Sam
Smith in the coming term of the
circuit court.
W. C. Jacobs of Paulina, passed
through Prineville yesterday on
his way home from Shaniko with
Mrs. Jacobs and the children, who
have been visiting in California
There will be a social dance at
Templeton Hall on McKay creek,
May 1st. There will be good
music and a good time is promised
all who attend. Everybody in
vited.

W. J. Smelzer stole a march
his friends last week when
quietly slipped over to The Dalles
and took unto himself a wife. Miss
Kate Hanley of Placerville, Calif.,
is the bride. They were married
Saturday morning by Rev. Father
Bronsgeest in St. Mary's Chapel
at The Dalles.
Mr. and Mrs. Smelzer were given
a serenade by the Prineville Band
Monday evening, ihe young
couple will make their home in
Prineville where the bridegroom is
engaged in business. Everyone
extends to "Joe" hearty congratu
lations.
