Will Differ Varieties
It has been a mooted question in
Crook county as to whether or not
corn can be successfully grown.
A few people say that it can but
the great majority shake their
heads in the negative.
The question was put to Tillman
Renter of Madras the other day
and it was answered most decidedly
in the affirmative.
"I planted five different varieties
on my place near Madras last year
and all did welL From the six
acres cultivated I gathered some
120 bushels. It was planted too
thick to obtain the best results,
but it made excellent fodder and I
am now feeding it to my horses
and cows."
"I experimented with the Yel
low Dent from the Wisconsin Ex
periment Station, Yellow Flint
(King Phillips) which is fine for
fattening cattle and makes lots of
good fodder. It does well in this
country. It will grow some six
feet in height and there will be
from 12 to 14 stocks in a hiil.
Each stock is covered with broad
green leaves that make the beet
kind of feed for milk cows
The Early Adams is the' best
table variety and is equal to sweet
corn for early table use. When
ripened it makes a fine grade of
white meal for corn bread. It is
a white flint corn and appears to
be at home in this climate.
An interesting variety is the
Minnisota King corn which is a
cross between a Dent and a Flint
corn bht has not been thoroughly
tried in this country.
Mr. Reuter will plant about ten
acres to corn this year and expects
even better results than last year.

Sheriff Elkins reports taxes
coming in quite promptly his year.
Up to date he has turned over to
County Treasurer King something
like HX),000. This is away ahead
of previous records for money col

One result of the financial Hurry
last fall is the increase in half pay

this vear.
Wheat sales in the Madras coun
