BLANCHARD EXPLAINS Prineville, Or., March 0, 'OH To the people of Crook county: llcc-use ol an article which up pes red in tlio laxi Issue ol the Mad rt Pioneer and because I wish to m-liw my position plain to the 'o pie of tlio county, I have written the following article which contain th fart in the cimo tn I tee them Crook county is naturally divid ed into three Mpnrato pnrt- the eastern and southern, or clock raining ilintrtct; thn west central, or thn great irrigated district and the north i-enlral which is pri manly devoted to grain raining I believe that every thinking man will agree that nothing would be more fair than that ench of these districts should have a rep resentative in the next county court. The irrigated district al ready haa ita representmivo in Commissioner laley, of Laidlaw; the atock raining district will un doubtedly Ih represented hy Mr. Ilice of Hay Creek (an there m em to bo no opposition to him). Now ia it not junt and fair to every one. that the county judgnhip should go to the great grain raining district round Madraaf Immediately after I announcd my candidacy for the ollieo of county achool ucrintendat, aome of my friend came to me and tried to get me to withdraw from my candidacy for that position and announce rnynelf a candidate for the office of county judjff. Thia I positively refuned to do. During the three weeks following I waa importuned by many people, from nearly all parta of the county, to make the change aa ituUd above; atill I relaxed, hut when it became apparent that the people from Lamonta, Culver and my home precinct (Kutcher) were de airoua that I come out for county judge, I decided to investigate the matter and mado a three days' trip . ; Sold kiotJJ.ii.ux. df Sit Garden Seeds We sell only The Chas. It waa only after finding out the wiMfTea of the eoplu of my home precinct and finding that there woufTl be no commissioner from there, that I did decide to withdraw from my candiducy for county nchocil sujwrintendent and consent to make the race for county judge. If thia makes of me a "niisc lluneou" candidate, then I plead guilty to being one. I have not aked and do not in tend to ak any man who has promined hia aupport to any other candidate for the oflke of county judge, to support me for that ofliee. However, I should expect every man to vote for what he considers the bent interent of tho couimunit v in which he liven, An to having "forfeited all claim to the aupport of my friends" in the Madraa country, I really can not nee how I have done that, an it Ia only because of their nnking me to make the change that I consent ed to do ho. aa ia evidenced by a numerounly signed petition in which they not only anked me to withdraw Irom my candidacy for county achool superintendent and concent to become a candidate for the office of county iude. but in which they i ledged me their aup port for said hint mentioned office. Aa to my platform I have made no promises to any ono, neither Kua any one acketl me to do so, but if I am elected tt tho oflke of county judge, I shall, to the beat of my ability, lalor to give every pre cinct in Crook county a "iSquare Deal." This is the same com pany that ia building np the Mc- Kenzie river. Th is is what Mr. Ehret came over to see about. He wanted to know whether or not Prineville would do her part toward getting the much needed transportation. Mr. Ehret was not long in getting an answer. He was assured that the city would meet any reasonable proposition more than half way. What was wanted here was some definite facta to work upon and the matter would be taken np at once. Mr. Ehret expressed himself as well pleased with his mission and would have it arranged ao that Mr. Welch, the general manager of the company, would come here with a definite proposition to lay before the people.
