ards, men who see evil and are
afraid to grapple with it. Prob
ably if the shoe tracks of nine
tenths of the people who come to
an office to teach the editor could
be traced home the tracks would
be found to lead to the homes of
men who never go to a circus or
interest themselves in the candi
dacy or election ol a county attor-

accusing the editor of double mo
tives, calling him a blackmailer
and abusing him generally who

That, gentle reader, is the chesty
gent whe pranced into the news
paper office the day before and
said:
"Sometimes 1 wished I owned a
newspaper just for one day, to
denounce the evils of this town;
why don't you sail in; denounce
that gambliug house in the John
sou block; get after that joint in
Jones block; ruu those women out
of town; go after this and that fel
low whose every day life is rotten?
and so forth for five thousand
words. As a rule, men behind
newspapers have as much courage
as other people in the community;
they need it every day in the week
and develop it by conetant prac
tice. They are used to public criti
cism, and are hardeued to abuse.
They don't care what people think
of them, o they are easy prey to
meu with axes to grind. But how
