The Paulina people are enjoy-'
Ing the convenience of a barbed
wire telephone ytem. Last week
a jollification was held at Mike
Brown's place over the auccessful
establishment of the 'phone line.
There i telephone connection
from Stewart' place to the Pau
lina valley. Twelve 'photic are
now in operation and more are to
be put in. There will bo about
twenty-five mile of wire when
completed. The system work
like a charm and ia comparatively
inexpensive. It i caul that you
can talk with elation on the main
line.

the necessary wind work on the
new Mount Hood railroad and ex
pecU to see the same operating in
Crook county at an early date.
The P. L. & V, Co. has reduced
the price for cord wood and have
stopped many of the big teams
from hauling as they have about
as much wood in the yards as
they expect to use before the new
plant at Lava Falls is ready for
operation in the early summer.

A man by the name of Brown,
an old prospector, tried to shuffle
off the troubles of his life last Sat
urday. The timely arrival of Dr,
Rosenberg with bis stomach pump
prevented the aged miner from
carrying out bis purpose. The old
man took laudanum and it was
only after a lot of hand work that
his life waa saved.
