ADVANCING
A week ago the prediction was
made that there would be an early
advance in livestock This week
the advances were made. All
liues were affected by the Improved
buying call and the small run ws
a nioet wonderlul aid . toward to
market to climb out of the rut
where it had been stuck for eo long
a period. Packers staved out of
hog market becau e they said they
could buy them cheaper in the
east, but the few arrivals thafcstjue
were quite readily taken by the
trade even though prices were
somewhat higher. Top hogs went
to 15.25 and 15.50 with tales at
both figures. Receipts of hogs for
the week totaled a scant 393 head,
compared with 524 a year ago,
303 in 1906 and 911 for this same
week in 1905.
While the run of cattle showed
considerable improvement over the
run of last week when but 2S0
head were received, and even over
previous years for this period;
arrivals did not come faster than
the demand warranted, as witness
an advance of 25c in the price
during the week. This put top
steers up to $4.25 and at that
figure the market held firm for
selections.
Trade in sheep was firm and
active during the week, but it was
not until the last day or so that
receivers could obtain advanced
values. A gain of 25c is shown
for the week's price movement.'
