THURSDAY. JANUARY 16,1908
THE PRINEVILLE
P0ST0FEICE
For the six months ending Jan
uary 1st the poetoffice department
caused a record to be kept at ill
poetoffice of the matter mailed
and the amount of equipment
carried in connection with the
handling ot the mails. The re
sult show some interesting fig
ures. The FrineTille poetoffice,
which has just completed a report
for the months covered in the
period mentioned, bandied 1400
pounds of first-class matter that
represents a revenue to the de
partment of $443. The weight of
the fourth-class matter mailed
reached but a little more than
1000 pounds, while the quantity
of free matter that represents the
mailing of communications in
connection with the operation of
the poetoffice and the Forest Ser
vice reached a total weight of 638
pounds.
The above figures do not begin
to convey any idea ot the amount
of transient mail handled here.
But you can make a guess at the
amount from the fact that the
empty sacks and locks weighed
sixteen tons.
Grand Masquerade Ball
The Fire Department of the
city of Prineville will hold a grand
. masquerade ball at P. A. A. C. hall
on February 21. The fire boys are
working hard to make this event
the beet of its kind ever given
here and their efforts should be
seconded by every citizen living
within the corporate limits of the
town. You owe it to the depart
ment for its good work during the
year just closed. This is the time
to show your appreciation of the
services performed. The least you
can do is to buy a ticket. Perry
Poindexter will be floor manager,
He will be assisted by P. B. How
ard, Jack Summers, W. F. King,
Dr. Rosenberg, Granville Clifton
and Grover Young.
Clothe, line Reel
Omer Claypool has patented a
little device that will prove a boom
to the busy housewife. It is
little contrapsion for holding your
clothes line taut. It consists of a
reel mounted in a frame which can
be fastened to any fixed object
The handle which is fixed to the
reel is made of resilient material
and has a lip adapted to turn over
a serrated face of the frame and
engage in the notches or teeth
formed therein for the purpose of
holding the line taut By its use
you can slacken your line to hang
out your clothes and then tighten
it up to keep them out of the way,
Clothes cleaned, pressed and
mended. Satisfaction guaranteed,
Mrs. Cohrs, at the Bedby.
