A WRONG IMPRESSION The Right Reverend Charles Scaddina, Biohop of Oregon, i doing marvelou work throughout the eatt in r-rewnting the recour cei of the Reaver State. Report ot his illustrated lectures come from various sections and the newspapers everywhere have given Oregon an immense amount of complimentary prominence as a result of the bishop's work. His bent effort is a letter just printed in the New York Tribune and reads as follows: "Sir: Having just seen a copy of your paper containing an article on A Eisflop With No Fixed Abode,' I desire to correct a false impression which some paragraphs may convey. "You present a very spectacular picture of Mr. Paddock, the new bishop, of Eastern Oregon, but it is imaginary and based on ignorance of the conditions of which the new bishop is to become a part. East ern Oregon is not like the wildest wilds of Wyoming. It is neither populated by foreign immigrants, who form the 'tenement problem' of our great cities, nor by cowboys who carry bowie knives in their teeth and six-shooters in their hip pockets. It is rapidlt settling with sturdy, stalwart Arueiican citi tens, who have the courage to leave the east and middle west and come to a state which has the greatest undeveloped resources in the Union. "The rollicking, drinking, shoot-on-sight cowboy exists only in Bowrey melodrama. His place has been taken very largely by the college graduate, who now works a ranch on scientific principles. "The new bishop will not be required to dress like a cowboy, but will need his evening clothes and most immaculate linen in his wardrobe, for he will find the men as well dressed and the women as well gowned as most of the men and women with whom he is ac customed to associate. The bis hop will find a far lower average of vice and sink and crime in his new diocese than in New York. Oregon stands third among the states for the small number of illiterate persons in proportion to the population, while New York ranks forty-third. "Twenty thousand homeseekers came into Oregon during the past few months, for the most part a fine class of young people attracted by the ' equable and salubrious climate, the fertile soil and the fact that the profit this year on Oregon apples was $600 an acre, on cherries $500 an acre and on prunes $200 an acre, and by many similar facts. "The problem for the bishops and clergy of Oregon today is not that which is supposed to belong to a 'wild and wooly west,' but the problem of trying to make the Christian religion and good citizen ship keep pace with the remark able commercial developments. believe Oregon is today the strate gic field for the church and that now is the psychological moment to advance." No Buyers For Altai la Cattle It is reported that at least 50,000 head of, cattle in Alberta that were ready for shipment will have to- be turned back on the ranges for the winter. The infor mation furnishes an interesting in sight into 6ome of the conditions that have to be faced by settlers in that country, many of them per sons who allowed themselves to be persuaded to move there from this side of the line. They are learn irtg that it is one tning to raise cattle, and another to get buyers. The Alberta ranchers were prom ised early in the season that buyers would be sent out to pick up their surplus cattle. As the end ot tne snipping season ap proached no buyers appeared, the ranchers became anxious and im portunate, and they were then in formed there was no money to buy with. Many of them, it is said were depending on their prospec tive sales to meet liabilities and carry them through the winter. Stomach Troubles and Constipation "Chamberlain's Stomach and Liver Tablets are the bent thing for etomacli troubles and constipation I have ever sold," eayg J. li. Cullman, a druggist of Potterville, Mich. They are eay to take and always give satisfaction. I tell my customers to try thorn and if not satisfactory to come back and get their money, but have never had a com plain." For sale by I). P. Adameon. , Now they will have to do consider able financing with friends or with the banks. The information does not come through anyone who might be suspected of a desire to "knock" the Alberta country. The Winni peg Free Press is authority for the statements, and they are simply referred to here as illustrative of the fact that Alberta has its dis advantages as well as some good features. Spokeeman-Review. For Cold Rooms Hard to Heat The coming of the cold weather gives rise to the questions of how best to heat those rooms and hall ways cf the house that seldom if ever warm up, no matter how big a fire there may be in the furnace or other heating apparatus. The best way out of the diffi culty is the use of auxiliary stoves and of these it would be difficult indeed to find anything so handy and at the same time so clean and economical as the Perfection Oil Heater. To begin with, it is absolutely safe. The wick can be turned as high or as low as possible without danger. But perhaps the most desirable feature of all is its con venience. The Perfection Oil Heater can be easily carried to any part of the house where more heat is required. It may be cold bedroom, a chilly hallway, a sickroom. Or you can use it to heat the bathroom while you take your morning bath then drees by it and then carry it to the dining- room and eat your breakfast in comfort The occasions on which it can be called into use are numer ous and once you have tried the Perfection Oil Heater you'll won der why you ever struggled through a cold winter without one. Another advantage is the smoke less burner, which prevents any of the unpleasantnesses that perhaps have given you a poor idea of oil heaters in general. It is very handsome in appearance and is beautifully finished in nickel and Japan. Another heme comfort for the long winter evenings is the Rayo Lamp, which can be used in any room in the house from parlor to bedroom. It has the latest im proved burner, making it unusually safe and clean, and an ideal lamp for all 'round household use. The Perfection Oil Heater and the Rayo Lamp, combining as they do to make the house warm and cheerful, are valuable addi tions to any home, and no house hold should be without them. They are sold at a moderate price by dealers everywhere. FROM THE ANTILLES Chamberlain's Conh emety Benefit! a City Councilman at Kingston, Jamaica Mr. W. O'Reilly Fogarty, who is a member of the City Council at Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies, writes as follows : 'One bottle of Cbamberlaiu's Cough Remedy had good effect on a cough that was giviug me trouble and I think I should have been more quickly re lieved if I had continued the lemedy. That it was beneficial and quick in re lieving me there is no doubt and it is my intention to obtain another bottle." For sale by P. A. Adamson. Wanted One eeaond-hand writing desk with roll top.
