The automobile represewlativt1 of aubecribers to stock in the Trunk Line railroad up the Deschutes are enthusiastic over the favorable con ditions found in the country visited. W. F. Nelson, president of the company, says in an interview with the Portland Journal: "Our people were well pleased with central Oregon. There will undoubledly be something doing on the Oregon Short line, it makes no difference to our company what Mr. Harriman or other railroad builders do. If he means business he will get in and do something. You cannot show me a eountrv Death of Mrs. Joe Sherar. Word was received Monday from Sherar's bridge of the death of Mrs, Joseph Sherar who died at tha place on Sunday, July 23, from the effects of an operation performed month ago. Mrs. Sherar's maiden name was Jane Antoinette Herbert and with her father moved to Wasco county in intu wnen she was two years old. She married Joseph A. Sherar in 1S63 when 15 years old Since 1S71 they had lived at Sherar'i Bridge where they had a beautiful home. Mrs. Sherar was a woman of great force and character and enioved with one railroad doing well but i wide circle of friends in all parts that more than one railroad will do well, and better the country's conditions. "Central Oregon is a great em pire. Developments there in the last year or two are beyond com prehension. No railroad with a single track will be sufficient to handle the business of that region. This year the country around Madras, and Prineville produced 1,500,000 bushels of wneat. With railroad transportation and the development resulting, it will pro duce 5,000,000 bushels." of Crook county. She leaves an aged husband, one brother, George Herbert of Cornucopia, Or. and adopted daughter, Mrs. (.irimes of The Dalles. She was buried The Dalles Tuesday. at Fanners Sign Price Agreement. A letter to the Madras Pioneer Bays that the citizens of Agency Plains at a recent meeting con cluded that they would be governed by the price being paid for grain of all kinds at Shaniko and Prine ville at the time they wisned to sell. They thought they could sell suffi cient at these points to pay off their creditors and buy their supplies for winter, and if they had any left they would hold it until their sup plies needed replenishing. They drew up an obligation bind ing everyone who signed it not to sell any wheat, barley or oats to any person for a less price than is being paid for the . same kind of grain at Shaniko or Prineville at the time cf sale. There was no talk of any pool of any combination in restraint of trade, or any fixed price, or any ef fort to force values in any way. All they asked for was the best price being paid in the markets mention ed for their grain. The meeting was attended by twenty-five farm ers and every man present signed the obligation, and quite a number have signed it since. Opinions differ as to whether there is a surplus of wheat in this country or not, and it really makes no difference if there is, in fact, the more the better, as we know that there is an outlet for any surplus we may have at Shaniko. Died. At Ashwood, Or, July 23, 1907, Alexander Friend, aged 57 years. The deceased came to Eastern Oregon in 1S78 and settled in what is now Crook county. He was married to Mrs. S. E. Lawler Julyj 16, 1902. The deceased was well known and highly resected throughout this section of Oregon Redmond Items. News from Sisters. Harry K. Allen and wife, and Frank Zumwalt and wife have gone over to Seven-mile mountain black berrying. Carrol Smith of Prineville is in town. MiBS Jessie Isbam of Madras is very sick with typhoid fever at George Cyrus' place. Smith & Wilt of this place sold their stock ranch of 160 acres to Mr. Good willie of Bend for $4500. News items are pretty scarce these hot days. Sisters, Or., July 30. Never niicsed last week at all. If we had it would keep us busy e ther inventing three different excuses or dressing up the same one in three different ways so folks would not recognize it as the same one. Rain last week not very heavy but it did a great deal of good. Mrs. Carl Ehret is back from trip visiting at different Oregon points. She accompanied Carl on his return from a Portland trip. Lots of railroad excitement these days. Personally we have come to the conclusion that when the rail road comes it will be in a hurry. Messrs. Perry and Lvle have gone up the river hunting and fish ing. Mrs Trikler has taken a home stead. The old Meredith place west of Cline Falls. Home grown cabbage is on our tables now and cabbage in the stores from the Cove orchard. Mr. and Mrs. Gillespie and J. H Schakely have gone to the moun tains for timber claims. We do not hear a great deal of fair talk, but the directors are busy and assure every one a good time. Exhibits will be larger and better than last year; more premiums will be offered, more sports and amusements will be on hand and many special premiums will be given. Mr. Bolstead, while haying on Crooked river, had the misfortune to break his leg, which will lay him up for sometime. Mrs. J. H. Jackson entertains Wednesday in honor of Mrs. and Miss Jones. E. C.
