They will meet at 9 o'clock at the school house and make the start from there. H. D. Still has purchased the inter est of C. W. Foster in the meat busi ness of Foster 4 Hortgan. Mr. Still Is an enterprising young business man from North Dakota. John Combs returned Monday from Portland. He says that his mother Is much better and will soon be able to continue her Journey to Prlne ville. Adrian Crooks will take II. V. Gates to Klamath Falls in a few days in his Cadillac. The trip will test the staying qualities of the run about. Warren Glaze returned Friday from - Arizona, where he spent the winter. Warren says he was in Phoenix about three months, returning by way of Los Angeles, where he spent several weeks. The Baptist church will hold ser vices next Sunday at the Union church, Rev. J. T. Moore, the pastor, preaching. Subject for 11 a.m. "The King's Question." The subject for 8 p.m., will be "The Origin of Bap tists." Everybody cordially invited. G. M. Cornett returned from Shani ko Tuesday. He says if there is to be a change in the present mail ser vice he does not know of it. F, JONES, The father, mother and sister of J. C Houston arrived last week from North Carolina and will make their home In the future In Prlneville. The old gentleman la not an enttrestrau ger to this country. He lived here a couple of years some time ago and has always desired to, make Out nil Oregon his home. J. H. Ferguson waa down from the Bear Creek country Saturday. He say that the Bear Creek school house was burned to the ground last week. The fire started from a defec tive flue. The children saved about everything that could be removed desks, books, windows, etc No In surance. Miss Wilson, the teacher, moved Into a vacant house owned by Mr. Hinton and kept her school going right along. State Engineer Lewis and A. P. Stover passed through Prlneville Monday on their way to Redmond and Bend. They will return to Prlue vllle In about ten days. Mr. Stover Is connected with the U. S. Depart ment of Agriculture, Washl ngton, D. C, as expert on Irrigation and drain age in connection with experimental stations. The State Englueer Is not unknown to the people of Crook county. He Is a fine example of an Oregon boy that has reached an en viable position in his profession In a very few years. Graduating from the Portland High School a few years ago he went to Stanford Uni versity and from Stanford he went to Cornell to take the engineering course. Upon graduating at Cornell he took two government examina tions for different branches of the service and received appointment the same day In both departments. He chose the reclamation service and began work with Uncle Sam measur ing streams in Eastern 'Oregon. He was rapidly promoted and when the federal government was asked to re commend an acceptable engineer to jointly take up federal and state work a few years ago Mr. Lewis got the appointment, and he has made good, too.
