went to the wagon for the purpoee
of going to bed. He wan more or
lets intoxicated and had to be an
ointed. He got into the wagon by

He fell into a drunken ntupor and

the content of the wagon. It in

"uffocated by the smoke before the

taken by the coroner's jury which
rendered a verdict of "death by
suffocation." An autopsy wan
held by Dr. Edward to see if there
were any traces or evidence of a
crime having been committed, but
the examination did not reveal
anything upon which such a the
ory could be baK'd.
The fire wag discovered bv
Frank W. Smith who slept in a
barn near by. Smith wan awaken
ed by hearing some shots fired.
Upon going outride he saw the
camp wagon in flames and im
mediately gave the alarm. When
help arrived it was seen that Mr.

He was burned to a crisp. ThelC.
shots that were heard were caused
by the explosion of sotue cartridges
that were in the burping wagon.
Leander Dillon was born at
Quincy, 111., September 21, 1843.
He crossed the plains in 1853 with
his parents, who settled in Tulare
counly, California. Here Mr. Dil
Ion grew to manhood and was
married June 18, 1867, to Miss Ia
nora Hilliard, who survives him.
Twelve children were born to this
union. Eight daughters and four
sons. Nine of the family are still
living, namely, Mrs. John Cyrus,
Mrs. John Breed. ng, . Mrs. Frank
Wilhoit, Mrs. Pete Lerhman,
Aleatha, Lawrence, Alta, Lavell
and Orval, the youngest being 1 1
years of age.
Mr. Dillon came to Crook coun
ty in 1885 where he resided until
his death. He accumulated con
siderable property. He was buried
Monday and was followed to his
hint resting place by a large num
ber of friends.
