Volume XI.
With this issue begins Volume
XI of tlu Crook County Journal.
In the pitting of the years it ni tu
be irthnhle in u to mv that
the paper was never in a more
prosperous condition. The Journal
has kept pace with the community
and its standing is hut a retlex of
the country which its represents.
It is puhlished iu the best town
of its site in Eastern Oregon. A
town made up of good chitons and
alert business men who have
made Prineville a distributing
point for hundreds of miles of ad
jacent territory. In the forward
march of development the Journal
has ever been found in the van do
ing ail in its power to further the
interests of Crook county and the
town in which it is published.
These efforts have been appreciated
both by the advertiser and the sub
senher. We never earned more
advertising nor has the Journal
ever had a larger subscription list
For these manifold blessings we
tender our most sincere thanks
and trust that in the future we
shall merit a continuance of the
same.

The sordid cares of ollice and farm

Christmas is a venerable insti
tution and just how its observance
came about may prove interesting,
The setting apart of December 25th
as the anniversary of the birth of
our !avior was established by-
Pope Telesphorus, who died A. D.
13S, and throughout the subse
quent history of the church the
day has been one of the most noted
of Christian solemnities. In olden
times, confounded with the Epi
phanv. it was celebrated in the
months of April and May. In the
fourth century, however, St. Cyril
of Jerusalem succeeded in obtain
ing from Pope Julian I. an order
for ascertaining the exact dav of
Christ's nativity. The great theo
logians of the time took as a basis
the tables of the censors in the
archives of Rome and established
the day which has prevailed ev
since.

Largest Conservatory of Music
in America
By the aid of the most wonderful device ever conceived by
man we can teach more music in a given time for less
money thnn any other Conservatory or teacher.
The Harmonic Time Revealer
Makes the study of music a real pleasure. We do away
with the drudgery. With this you can master the scales
in a few minutes' time. One of our pupils said: "It is
like reading from a printed book, it is so plain and simple."
Our Methods are Successful
Have you a good teacher? Have you any teacher? In
either case it would be well to investigate. We can teach
you at home. Improve your odd minutes and become a mu
sician. We bring a Conservatory education to your door.
Our Pupil are Satisfied. What better proof could you ask fur?
We have some Twenty-five Thousand Pupils and thousands of en
dorsements. Eight here in your own county we have a large num
ber of students. This number is increasing rapidly as every day
several are enrolling.
Why Not Investigate? Write our Portland branch, or bitter still
Mr. B. F. Scott, formerly with the Eilers Piano House in this coun
ty, is now representing us and if you would drop him a card at
Prineville, he would be glad to call and see you. Do this. You will
not be placing yourself under any obligation.
A Pretty Wedding.
A former Crook county girl was
married in California a few weeks
ago. A special trom Los Gatos, to
the San Jose Mercury says:
"One of the prettiest weddings
of the season took place Wednes
day evening in the parlors of the
Methodist church, the contracting
parties being Miss M. Cecil Belknap
and RobertO. Hall. The room had
been very tastefully decorated by
the young lady friends of the bride
and presented a beautiful appear
ance. Great banks of ferns were
in prolusion, and streamers ot
smilax crossed the room in an ar
tistic manner, while the ceremony
itself took place under a large bell
of flowers.
"The marriage ceremony of the
Methodist Episcopal Church was
performed by the Rev. C. E. Irons
Then, to the Mendelssohn wedding
march, the bridal party went to
their carriages and were taken to
the residence of the bride's parents
where a reception was held, and
an elaborate repast served.
"The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. II T. Belknap of
Edelen avenue, and is an accom
plished young lady, a graduate of
the State Normal School at San
Jose and a favorite with the
younger set.
The groom, the son of Mr. and
Mrs. W. M. Hall, is a young man
of sterling qualities, and is at pres
ent employed in San Jose, which
is to be the future home of Mr
and Mrs. Hall."
II. T. Belknap and family are
well known in Crook county
They lived here for a number of
years and have many friends in
Prineville and vicinity.
