Best Institute Workers
in tbe State.
tb
A visitor nt the Crook C'otinty
High Hcliool would find the ii n
jurily of th Crook county teacher
hard nt work. Hut rlntend' nt
IHnwiddie, Professor Strang" n ml
Goodin have conducted it ucee
ful Nrml school during Jidy,
which ha Imnmi of jtri'dl benefit to
the teacher. With II not fur this
opportunity to prepare for ex
amination, the teachers would be
obliged to stand tin- extra expense
of goinn to another county for thin
work. Tin' teacher are pleased
with the present roii'lition and
with the character of work Unit tin
been offered. Thin extra study
will benefit the schools of the
county, since the teachers will do
rnore cllicient work.
During thi present ws-k Hhht
intendcut Ihnwiddie in conducting
the regular minimi institute.
HuM'riht'iuli'iit I. It Trover of the
Condition I'uhlin School came in
front Pendleton Monday nnd in
giving Mviitl work in method
thin week. Kin subjects are:
Phonics, I'rimary Reading, Lan
guage, Arithmetic, Course of Study
lit Method.
Judging from the note being
taken by the teacher, Surin
tendent Travcr i giving some
practical work which will find 11
place in the school roin)H of the
county.
The present summer m hool in a
departure from the ordinary plan
pursued in the other counties, hut
it in a ronounc'd success, nnd
Sujierinlendent Hinwiddio pro
poses to continue tin school next
summer. Thn teachers of tin
county sincerely hope that thin
may he done.
The work of the institute will he
followed by three or four miming
local institute which will U held
during the winter. 8ucrintcnd
ent Dinwiddio will he united by
Professor Strange, Mis tioodin
and several of the prominent
teacher" of the county. These
meetingn will keep the educaliotuil
work of thin county at a white
heat, and produce good results for
the boy and girl.
The present law require all
teachers to attend the county in
stitute. The Crook county teach
ers are manifesting a spirit to oUy
the law, not only in the legal senne
but in a professional sense, ami
have rescinded hy attending the
present institute almost in a body.
This attendance moms that many
of the teachers must travel long
distances, hut they feel that they
are being fully repaid.
A pleasant feature of the insti
tute was the invitation of Mr.
Adamson to the teachers to visit
his drugstore and ice cream par
lor on Tuesday afternoon. The
teachers were all present and en
joyed some of the best ice cream
ever manufactured in Oregon. It
is rumored that &n high us four
dishes were served to one individu
al. Mr. Adamson served some fine
candy and ice cold drinks.
Superintendent Dinwiddie
thanked Mr. Adamson on behalf
of the teachers. Mr. Adamson's
generous treat was highly appreci
ated, and it is certain that his per
iod has leen the most interesting
on the program.
A stranger in the county could
not help noting the excellent in
tercst in all matters educational;
the splendid school system and es
pecially tho grand work being done
by the County High School. This
echool furnishes the best advan
tage at the lowest possible cost
An examinaton of tho attendance
shows that Crook County boys and
girls are not slow to take advan
tatra of the excellent school. The
attendance in the school will roach
200 pupils in a short time.
Instead of grieving over the fact
that Crook county is somewhat
distant from Eugene or Corvalhs
the people have decided to bring
I'rofensor Strnnge i one of the
best educator in the entire slut.
However, bin splendid work in evi
dent nnd needs no commendation.
It U cry fortiiinite that he and

and i well supported by the peo
ph of thn county.
