A conllal Invitation.
TO THE PUBLIC: .
For upwards ol a month the people ol Prineville anil nearby vicinity have been
solicited to buy a twelve-year investment (?) bond in the Pacilic Conservative Lile
Insiuanice Company.
Any lile insurance company, however small, that resorts to a "board contract or
any other "scheme' by. which it hopes to make large insurance sales or, as in this
instance, an investment contract whereby the lile insurance company seeks to fill a
depleted treasury, does not deserve ol your patronage.
- The insurance leature ol the bond (?) sold is infinitesimal as compared to the
premium paid and is only a sublerluge by which it is sought lo evade the law ol the
State ol Calilornia. which lorbids the direct sale ol any "get rich in a hurry scheme.

Less than six years ago the Conservative Lile was a ministerial assessment
association operating in the Middle West. In 1900 it was bought up with several
other assessment concerns by capitalists ol Los Angeles and the Conservative Lile
lormed as a stock lile insurance company therefrom. The first of the year it was
merged with the Pacific Mutual under; the title ol the Pacilic Conservative Life
Insurance Company. At the present time injunction suits are pending in the Calilornia
courts wherein the applicants (policy holders in the Pacilic Mutual) are seeking lo
prevent the consolidation ol the two companies. Every right thinking man posted on
life insurance matters hopes in his heart ol hearts that their prayer will prevail. The
policy holders in the Pacilic Mutual have everything to lose and nothing to gain by
the union.

You are told that lor each bond sold security to the amount ol the lace ol the
bond is promptly hypothecated with the Treasurer ol California. What security?
Securities that belong to the lile insurance tail ol this hybrid lile insurance investment
bond concern. Just robbing Peter, lo pay Paul! That's all! Your money here at
home will earn you 10 per cent in sale and legitimate investment. Do not be carried
away by glittering generalities and the hope ol linding a lortune lor the mere asking
by purchasing one ol these so-called bonds. II the proposition made is what it is
cracked up lo be, then the great State of Calilornia with its millions ol wealth ought
lo be a spendid field lor these people to operate in and not an isolated section in the
State ol Oregon. ARTHUR W. CLOTHIER,
