ion to the racing machine occurred

while attempting to cross a bridge

the heavy storms which have broken
over the country" during the past
two weeks. In the face of the diffi
culties which It has encountered the
machine did well to arrive here only
one week behind the winner of the
$1000 purse. In speaking of the race,
Mr. Megargel said thnt the affair had
cost the Oldsmoblle company In the
neighborhood of 11,000, which Is all
applied to the advertising account.
Mr. Megargel and his assistance are
are each receiving '100 per month
and expenses for driving the ma
chine. At-Hunts gasoline cost them
80 cents n gallon, and their expense

Every time you stick a pick In
great Urant county you run it into
a treasure. Foal has been struck
near Upton. The contractors
grading along the Kmupter Valley
extension struck a blanket vein of
coal about one mile this' side of the
present terminus. (Iraders In pre
paring the roadbed uncovered a
foot vein. The Miner was shown
piece of the new strike and it has all
the appearance of a good coal eon
slderiug the fact that it was taken
but a few feet from the surface. It
combtiHtlon Is perfect and It burns

Every tiling is in readiness for the
celebration on tne Fourth of July.
The program Is waiting to be put
Into execution and a day of royal
good sport Is promised. It Is prob
able that two dances will be given,
one on the night of the Ilrd by the
fire companies and the baud, and
the other on the night of the Fourth
by the bull team. Word comes from
Madras that unite a delegation will
come from there and neighboring
points with the Madras ball team to
be present during the celebration.
Every thing possible will be done to
make the day a pleasant one for the
visitors.

Methodist church of this' city,
performed the ceremony. Both the
bride and groom nre widely known
throughout the county where both
have spent the greater part of their
lives. Mr. Starr, who Is a nephew
of Congressman Williamson. Is the
foreman at the Williamson and
tiesner sheep ranch. Mr. and Mrs.
Starr will spend their honeymoon in
Portland, and after a month's
absence will bo at home to their
friends in Prineville.
