The members of the railroad party have come and gone. The country generally feela a trifle re juvenated owing to their imposii.g presence. It i quite possible the prospects for railroad extension are not as remote as before they came, but nevertheless still remain in the future, which always cares for itself. As Mr. Cotton stated while here the reports and recom mendations made by the visiting party will be forwarded very soon to the head offices, some to Mr. Stubbs, of the traffic department in Chicago, and some to other officials in New York City. In time these various officials will get together. Then there will be general discussions and a harmo nixing of the reports as a whole and a decision as to what couise shall be pursued. If favorable to this county then preparations will be made to lay the rails. But they aren't going to twist their necks off in their eagerness to con summate the work. Mr. Cotton . didn't say that in so many words, but he inferred as much. Well, then, after a bit, when all the pros and cons have been turned over and viewed from both top and bottom, Crook county will know its fate, bo far as the Columbia Southern is concerned. But there will be no railroad building ihis year from that direction. Maybe next. Big bodies move slowly, and Columbie Southerns still slower. "Restful Recreation Resorts," the 1905 Summer Book issued by the passenger department of the Oregon Railroad fe Navigation Co contains forty-eight pages and cover. The book is printed on heavy white paper, fifty-eight cuts being used to illustrate the trips up and down the Columbia river, to the mountains, beeches, island re- Borts and fountains of healing Several of the illustrations are of scenes in the Bend country. Charlie Cottor looms up particularly im posing in a Deschutes fishing scene The cover is done in three colors, adding materially to the beauty and effectivness of the publication, which may be had by sending two cents in stamps to A.
