J. W. Bledsoe lias finished moving
his photogrnphlc outfit from Ik-ud
and this week opened his gallery In
this city. A recent view which Mr.
Bledsis' has on exhibition at hi gal

on three separate plates and is 14

Fire, which started In a rubbish
lump .back of the Harvey Cyrus
Jewelry store soon after 6 o clock
Monday evening, ruined the interior
of that building and only by quick
and effective work on the part of the
tire companies was prevented from
developing into n costly blaze. The
flames had crept up the west side ,of
the building and were circling over
the roof when discovered by Terry
Long. An alarm was turned In Im
mediately and two streams of water
were playing on the building In-fore
the flames had made any consider-1
able headway", although for a time
both buildings ndjolnlng the one
burning were threatened with dls-
tructlon. The lire started In a place
w here It had every advautage and
only through the prompt and effect
ive work of the firemen was a costly
blaze averted. The Cyrus store was
damaged both on the interior and
the outside and Mr. Cyrus will lose
some Jewelry which he was nnable
to carry away from the water. All
the chairs and equipment in the
Powell & Cyrus barber shop, which
adjoins the burned building, were
carried out, the only damage to that
building resulting from the flood of
water. It Is thought the fire start
ed from a match or cigar stub either
of which might have been carelessly
thrown Into the corner of the bulld-
imr. Mr. Cyrus was at the rear of
of the store and out of the back
door onlv a few minutes before the
flames were discovered and there
were no signs erf a fire at that time,
