Friday, id slightly improved and

During three days last week it
wan thought he could Btirvive but a
few hours longer. Unless ho suf
fers another wetback ho will soon
regain his strength.
Tho big plate of glass for the
front of Wurzweiler it Thompson's
tore which were sent to replace
tho ones broken, have been set in
place. Tho improvement is a very
noticeable one and adds greatly to
that particular corner besides
giving a largo amount of display
space.
Circuit court did not convent:
until Tuesday niorrung, owing to
tho fact that Judge Ellis missed
connections and failed to arrive in
town until Monday evening. The
present session will hold over un
til ponielime next week. Judgi
Bnulshaw is holding court on an
other circuit this term.
Chas. A. Gilchrist was in the
city Tuesday from his ranch 'at
Price. Mr. Gilchrist states
season has never hcen better for
tho stockmen in that section of the
county than the present one
With a few rains during the early
summer there will he an abund
ance of crops. Mr. Gilchrist was
in tho city to make final proof
on a desert claim.
The lumber for the new grand
ftand at the ball diamond is on
the grounds and the Ktructuro will
be completed in time for next
Sunday's game. The stand will
have five tiers of H-at and will ac
coinmndo about -100 persons. It
will Ih! cup shaped running from a
point between home and lirt-t base
around to a point near third and
will be DID feet in length. Nearly
8000 feet of lumber will be used in
the eoiictructi -jn work. J. I). Shipp
has the contract.
A man and his three sons, who
were immigrating to southern Ore
gon, stopped in town a couple of
days tin's week to rest after llieir
trip across the Cascade. They
had with them an Irish setter dog
which, hitched to a unall cart,
had hauled their cooking utensils
and provisions all the way from
the valley. The animal acted as
well in a harness as the best brok
en horse and obeyed commands as
well as if reins and whip bad been
used to guide him.
The base bail same between
Hend and Princvillo scheduled for
next Sunday, May 7, promises to
be the best game yet played be
tween the.-e two teams as both
nines me putting in some good
iard practice work. The new dia
mond will be ready for the game
and a grand stand erected with a
renting capacity of 400 w hich will
add to tho comfort of the Fpeeta-
tors. An admission charge of 25
cents will bo made to the grounds.
Fred Scott, a brother-in-law of
Henry Ciulle, was killed by a
minor at renica, unutornia, nisi
week. Mr. Cadle received but few
particulars concerning the tragedy.
Mr. Scott was the owner of a mine
in that vicinity and bad in his em
ploy a large number of miners.
During an altercation with one of
them he was struck on the head
with a hammer, his nssilant con
tinuing the attack until Mr. Scott's
kull was completely mashed.
