Cascade Mountains. Mr. Stewart
killed a cougar six and ono half feet
in length while Mr. Templeton killed

While the judge got no big game he
holds the record for a rapid shot,
having while on this trip dismounted,
untied his gun, nnd wounded a deer
in just three seconds.

Mrs. J. F. Spinning, who left Prine
ville last week to visit with relatives
in Iowa, was unfortunate enough to
be carried into the storm cenler which
has swept recently through Kansas
and Nebraska. Mrs. Spinning wrote
to her husband here that coin stalks
and grass hanging to the telegraph
wires became a familiar tight in the
vicinity of Omaha where the floo l
reached its highest point. At Council
Illufis, which was almost completely
submerged, tho city orViciaU were
using steam hutches in the streets,
and the water in the race track, where
races hud been held a day or two
before, was 21 feet iu depth. The
Missouri river ros five feet in 15
minutes.

Thomas Thorpe, Jr., formerly of New
Orleans, La., has bought the section
of road land lying immediately east of
the McCallister ranches on Lower
Crooked river. Ho is n Into arrival in
our section, nnd intends to make his
home on the land purchased where lie
actively engage in the sheep
business. It is bis intention to let
contracts soon for clearing nnd
breaking this land, for the purpose of
seeding it to alfalfa. He has also
bought a forty-acre tract of meadow

getic young man, and is a substantial

county. lie is a veteran of the Spanish-American
war having served in
