is joint owner with L. M. Woods,
of John Day, was mtftt agreeably
surprised on Sunday last when a
workman on the property reported
to his employer with specimens of
the content? of a pocket he bad
found about six feet under the sur
face, while following a seam. Fur
ther investigation discovered the
fact that the pocket yielded at
least $150 in gold probably more,
for the pocket had not been entire
ly roblied of its precious contents
when Mr. Carsady left lor this City.
Only assessment work was being
done at the time the pocket was
struck- The seam which the work
man was pursuing is from four to
five inches wide. The find will pro
bably excite the owners of Dame
Fortune which is the name of the
cl lim to more spirited f urtuit of
the "stringer." Mr. and Mrs. Cas
sady were in Prairie City yefterday,
en route to John Day to visit at
the home of the latter' parents.
