Can liwatai' ao not seem to oe very plentiful yet, but no doubt on elec tion day they will bob up in va' fiouB places. No factional jealous jes nor partisan strife should enter into the matter, but every one should use' good common sense in making a selection tor the various tilaces to be filled. Councilmen should be chosen who will look well after the city's interests. Men who carry on their own business affairs successfully will, as i rule, lie good men to fill places of public trust, Presioont Roosevelt has shown himself to bo one one of the best presidents the country has ever had by his message. He will stand by the West in its demands for the re-enactment of the Chinese exclu sion law and having a fund of ex perience on our western ranges we may safely predict that he will op pose any lease law that may be brought up by the cattle barons He also favors legislation ,to aid the arid West in reclaiming its Jands for the use of the actual set tler. " Brother Liggett says by all means re-elect the outgoing members of the city council, but has nothing to say for the remainder of the offi cial staff, The Mayor may have his optics on something high er, but a bird in hand is worth sev eral in the convention. We don't know of another man in the com munity that can fill the Mayor's chair with more dignity or more ease And comfort than the present incumbent. W. H, Parker, son of our fellow citizen, Hon. Allen Parker, has purchased a half interest in the Crook County Journal, published dt Princville. Mr, Parker has for ten yearB been foreman on the Al bany Herald, He is a good printer and will help to make the Journal one of the best weeklies in the state.
