V In a spelling contest held in Miss Belknap's ro.,m last week, Edgar Barnes coiue out champion. V A number of pupil have been dismissed from kcIjjoI on a acount of them being exposed to scarlet fever. V The V grado pupils are doing ex cellent in addition in the advanced arithmetic. The language work is ahsovery good. VI grado pupils are experiencing some trouble with fractions, being compelled to omit a great deal of review work in placing the school on the state course of study. In the future this class will have two recitations a day in arithmetic, one in mental and ono written work. Excellent work is being done in geograpy. The class is at present reviewing Asia. The third division of the Wide Awake Society, under the leader ship of Samrnie Newsom, rendered the following program: Song, school recitation, "Our Yankee Cousin," Summie Newsom; select reading "That Hired Girl," Fred Zell; recitation. "Telling Them of Tampa," Valda Barnes; instru mental solo, "Orveita waltz," Ruby Cadlo; recitation. "My Dog and I," Charles Summers; select read ing, "Fashionable Piano Music," Anna Salomon; song "Forget Me Not," Lcnnio Foster and Beulah Hyde; recitation. "He Came Down," John Bino; recitation, Selected, Horace Belknap; Dialogue "Labor," Charles Bostwick, farmer; Stella Young, farmers wife; Beulah Hyde, farmers daughter; Elwood Draper, farmers eon; Charles Sum mers, shoemaker; Ruby Cadlc, washerwoman; Valda Barnes, milk maid; Horace Belknap, blacksmith; Lawerence Dillon, schoolmaster; Song "Good bye," school. Mrs L M Hodges, Mrs Isom Cleek, Miss Fiankie Dillon and Miss Mont gomery, were visitors last week. . The State Board of Education has formulated new rules for the conducting of eight grade final examination through the state. A copy of these rules has been posted in Prof Ortons room. These ex planations are conducted in very much ihe same manner as exani- anations for teachers Certificates In the future thn eight grade ex- amanations will be held in Feb ruary, April, May, and June, on such days as the State Superinten dent may inrlicate. Jn order to secure a public school diploma a pupil must make an average of not less 80 per cent snd not fall below 70 per cent in any one branch. Should a pupil fail in one examnnation, he is permitted to take following examanation and if successful, to receive a Diploma in accordance with the result of the two examinations. This diploma entitles the holder to enter in the state without further examination There has been several caet of tardiness during the past week.
