that tliis is tlio anarchists creed:
"I believe in no God; I believo in

all property is robbery; ' all gov

THURSDAY, OCT. 10. 1001.
Justice was quick enough in the
case of Ctolgosz; why should she so
stumble on technicalities in ordi-cuses.
The Carnival Number of the
Telegram is a fine one, and is full
of useful information of Oregon
and her resources.
Why not compel Herr Most and
Emma Goldman to live together
without other society for six
months. It v.ould cure them both
of anarchy.
Booker Washington ia right.
The lawless spirit that leads to
lynching is nearly akin to that
which leads to anarchial revolt
against all government.
Everyone knows that the Gov
ernment chart of the battle of San
tiago was only approximately cor
rect, but it was hardly expected
that it would te officially declared
to be "absolutely worthless." Let
us have a correct chart.
The premium barring rule of the
Postofiice Department went into
effect October 1, and there are
symptoms of revolt all over the
land. Congress will certainly be
asked to take immediate action on
the subject.
If each county of tho State
would contribute as lively a quota
to the fund of tho campaign issues
as Harney does through its live
stock association, we would bo as
sured of a warm time, next fpring.
Better than all, it would knock the
bottom out of the Wandering Wil
lies of jiolitics who pull strings for
the nomination of eanditates who
love the dear people when they al
low them to get into office with
their minds made up and their
mouths shut up. It it. just such
resolution, followed out to the let
tea, that makes reform. Harney
County News.
Crook county is to be congratu
lated on the personnel of its County
Court. The fact that the last of
tho warrants registered prior to
September 30, are called in by the
treasurer, is something to be proud
of. Furthermore, there is a hand
some little ballance in the treasury
to apply on bridges this fall. Had
it not been for the Bruner murder
ease there would be enough in the
treasury to pay expenses for some
time to come. As it is, we can
safely predict a material reduction
in our assessment rates in the near
future.
So Tar, as we can make out, the
thief charge against Schley seems
to be that he failed to ram the Tex
hy at least a hundred yards and
then, instead of trying again,
turned caitiff flight to tackle
the Spanish boats.
A3 usual, the empty-headed
. leader who forced ft eausless strike
on a technicality in order to glori
fy himself, is now claiming that he
was betrayed by those who should
have aided him. A little power is
an awfully dangerous thing to be
entrusted to some men.
We feel well pleased with the
the progress made by the Journal
during the past six months. From
a "patent," having a circulation of
!00. it has emerged into an all
1 nine print, having to publish 680
op:eseach issue, and new names
ure being added to the list every
week. In has 1 een our aim to
give our readers the home news, or
as much as we can get. And we
will continue to do o.
The only result of Lord Kitch
ener's proclamation "disqualify
ing" the Boers has been to bring
them several thousand recruits
from their fellow countrymen in
Cape Colony. From ail accounts,
the Boer forces are now stronger
than thev have been for nearlv a
year. Our own revolution lasted
seven years under equally dis
tressing condition'-, but we won at
list ind so mav thev.
The action of the Harnev Coun
ty Livestock Association at its last
meeting, meets with the approval
of the small stockmen in all parts
of Eastern Oregon, and similar
actions should be taken all along
the line, that we may be prepareu
for the next session of Congress to
fight the big stock corporations.
If nothing is done, they will have
a clear field and may get some
kind of legislation enacted that is
favorable to them, It is said that
our representative in Congiess is
favorable to a lease law. If such
is the case the sooner we get rid of
him the better.
President Roo-evelt intends to
