Where Will It End?
Again the bullet of the assassin
has found a victim in the chief ex
ecutive of our nation. This time
from the weapon of an avowed
anarchist who boasts that he is a
disciple of the notorious Emma
Goldman, from whose teachings he
received the inspiration to kill the
President.
Not only he, but the whole out
fit of anarchists should be sum
marily hanged without the benefit
of law or clergy. Too long has
this country been the asylum for
this class of foreigners. The doc
trines they bring with them from
their home country have permeat
ed the communities in which they
have settled and the result is seen
in the shooting of our President.
More ignorant than the brute crea
tion and more treacherous than
the coyote,, on which there is a
bounty in Oregon, they should be
killed off with as little compunc
tion. In order to aid in purging our
land of this element an embargo
should be placed on all foreign
immigration until stringent laws
can be enacted for the regulation
of such immigration. We are well
aware that such measures will not
meet the approbation of some of
our readers who presuppose that if
' we had no foreign immigration
that we would not be here. Reas
oning fron the same intelligent
standpoint we may safely say that
if Columbus had not discovered
America we would not be here.
No true blue American will be
guilty of such expressions, especial
ly in such times as this when the
nation is bowed down in grief
In this broad land of ours where
freedom of thought, speech and
religion is tolerated to an extent
unknown anywhere else in the
world, such crimes as we have to
chronicle, as happening last Fri
day, should be unknown. Some
times we think that this very
liberty is a menace to our free
institutions, in that it is misinter
preted by a large part of the for
eign clement that has been flood
ing our shores for the past ten or
fifteen years. Too many of this J
-i . . .. ...
element cannot, or ao not discern
the difference between law and
license and being under the in
fluence of unsciupulous leaders
they are a fruitful source of dan
ger at all times.
Let true Americanism acuateour
National legislators and let them
enact laws most stringent for the
regulation of foreign immigration
and place a price on the head of
every adult person who utters a
syllable of anarchistic doctrine
within our borders. Let it not Le
said that this country furnishes
an asylum for the murderers of
kings, princes or potentates of
other nations as well as ,the breed
