From our regular corrMondent.
Monday, June 3.
On last Saturday a gloom was
cast over the community, by the
death of Corea, the infant daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Miller.
Lonely is the spot where lies, this
little babe, i-t In-ing the first to be
placed in our new cemetery, on the
desert, with nothing to mark its
last resting place but one lone pine
tree.
Put away the little dresses, that
your darling used to wear,
She will need them on earth never,
She has climbed the golden stair.
Angels whisper that your darling,
Is in realms of love so fair,
That her little feet are waiting,
Close beside the golden stair.
Ve are having beautiful weather,
and crops and gardens are looking
well. .
Pilot Butte is still booming and
the hum of the saw and hammer
can be heard in every direction.
The measles are decreasing, and
good health increasing, as there is
only one case of measles at present,
that being Mr. Almond Cary of
Crooked river, who is quite ill at
the Zell hotel.
Mr. Fry. the chief engi neer of
the Oregon Irrigation Co. paid
this place a Social Visit last Sun -
.
day.
J). D. Warner returned from
Portland last Saturday, all smiles,
w"here he has been visiting his
family for a few days.
Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Drake will
arrive here today, after visiting
their old home in St. Paul.
Kev. Harper, of Prineville, will
occupy the pulpit at this place
every second Sunday in each
month.
A few days since, two of our
soldiers bold, Mr. Arnold, and
Mr. Hodgson shouldered arms,
and marched bravely off for a bear
hunt. They had not gone very
far until they found fresh traiki of
Mr. Bruin, and readly came to the
conclusion that they were not look
ing for bears, only looking for coy
otes, for the purpose of obtaining
their scalps.
About six o'clock last Sunday
evening Donald Steffa and Charlie
Stansborough started for an even
ing stroll, and had not gone far
until they met an Indian driving
a mad steer. Both boys made a
run for the same tree but Donald
being the fleetest on foot made it
first to the tree, and aH Charlie,
started to climb, looking up, found
there was no room for l.iin for
Ponald's feet. Charlie started for
another tree, and succeeded in
reaching the toptnof-t boujsh and
on looking down neither Indian

It is reported at Klamath Falls
that Southern Pacific surveyors
are examining the route of the pro
posed railroad from Klamathon,
Cal., to Klamath Falls, and that a
permanent survey will begin early
in June. Persons who are familiar
with the. country are of the opinion
that the Southern Pacific, besides
tapping rich timber belts and
gaining other local business, will
make the Klamath Falls road part
of a main line which will ultimate
ly connect with the Columbia
Southern. This will give a road
from Eureka on the California
coast to Biggs on the 0. R. it X. on
the Columbia river.
