Hunting Trouble.
Canyon City was visited by
some Indians from the Warm
Springs reservation last Monday
who apparently had no sbject in
view other than obtaining infor
mation about the killing of the
Columbia Indian, Scarface Char
ley, in the Izee country two years
ago, and had the nerve to ask
where the party was who did the
shooting. When informed that
they could find the man who did
the shooting any time they were so
disposed, one of them appeared
very indignant, and flourished his
Winchester around in a manner
that would indicate that he was
actually looking for trouble. They
soon departed on their way south
ward. !
They each' carried a thirty-day

This will bring to mind an in
cident of two years ago in the Izee
country in which the son of Dave
Cutting was shot and killed by the
Indians. The settlers of the Izee
country have no love for an Indian
and should these Warm Springs
brothers drop over that way look
ing for trouble they will surely be

Jas. G. Clark, of Douglas county
has been sent to the insane asylum,
as a result of having been turned !
out in the cold by the friend to
he deeded his farm a few years ago
on condition the friend should care
for him in his old age. Mr. Clark
was weil known at one time as a
musical composer and sincer.
Jess Moss was here yesterday
and reported that Frank Shaw,
one of horsethieves who stole threo
of Moss's horses a few days ago,
was examined at Albany last Mon
day and made full confession of
the stealing. Pettyjohn, Shaw's
accomplice in the stealing, is still
at large, and it is thought he has
crossed the Cascades and is now
in Crook county. Lebanon Express-Advance.
The Thirty-third and Thirty-
fourth Volunteer Regiments, re
cently returned from Manila hae
been mustered out. The Twqnty
eighth and Thirty-fifth Infantr y,
now in camp at the Presidio, ex
pect to be mustered out of the ser
vice April 30. Although there are
very few troops now under order
for the Philippines, transports will
lie rushed there as fast as possible,
to be in Manila in time to brinv;
home all the volunteers to be mus
tered out by July 1.
Owing to the demand for hor e
meat in some parts of Europe the
horse abattoir at Linnton, wa
started up a short time ago. It if
estimated that 10,000 cayuses will
j be slaughtered this year.
