Five grocery stores in this city were entered by tramps laat night, but only small amounts of money and goods were taken. The stores robbed were the Twelfth -street grocary, Rineman's, Steiner'e, Eppley's. AllenJt Bower sox' and Maguire's. Rineman's and Steiner's stores are in the business part of town, while the others are in the suburbs. At today's session of the grand lodge of Odd Fellows the. following officers were elected : Grand master, Nelson ; deputy G. M., Andrews; warden, Jos. Micelli, on the 6rst ballot; secretary, E. E. Sharon ; treasurer, Miller, and representative to the supreme lodge, Palmer, of Baker City. It was decided to hold the next annual convention at Newport. Alleg-ed Unlawful Detention In Jall-A Caae For Dainaeea. Walla Walla, Wash., May 27. Notice of suit for ISOOO damages was filed on A. F. Kees, sheriff of Walla Walla county, this evening by Pearl and Alice Durkee. The case is already causing excitement here. In August, 1900, W. B. Taylor of Walla Walla was accused of as sault on Pearl and Alice Durkee, two minors living here. Taylor fled and three weeks later was caught by Sheriff Kees and Chief Kauf man in Everett. He was jailed and as the Durkee girls could uot furnish bond for appearance as witnesses they met the same fate. The case went over one term, not coming up until the last moment, when Taylor got three years. All this time the girls were in jail. Their mother appled for wit ness fee from September 5, 1900, until April, 1U01, at 12.20 a day. The law states that witness fee must be applied for at the end of each day, and Schuyler Arnold, county clerk, denied entrance to the claim on this ground. Judge Brents sustained this. At a result of last night's brawl after the Hart Creedou fight in which Dave Sullivan of New York was knocked out by Dave Husbands, and the police had to quell a gen eral mi i un. K. Dahl, an ex-resident of Aber deen, is under arrest at Victoria, B. C, on a charge of forgery, lie appealed to friends here, saying he was unjustly accused and kept in prison. Inquiry from the United States Consul Smith, at Victoria, Now suit I brings the statement that Dahl is for 18000 is brought against Sheriff guilty ; that the evidence is couclu Kees as an individual alleging un- sive, and that Dahl has been ad lawful detention.
