A warrant was sworn out in Jus tice Bell's court for the arrest of Connet and ho was arrested and hrought into town Wednesday by Deputy Sheriff Combs. The circumstances of the shoot ing, as shown by tho evidence pro duced a.t the preliminary examine tion before Justice Bell on Thurs day, are as follows : Connet and John Linville had some time since made some agree ment as to lines over which Mr. Linvillo's sheep should bo herded. On tho morning of the shooting, Mr. Linville's son, Villiam, and Turner wero herding the sheep near Connet's house and allowed them to cross tho lino over which they wero not to be herded. Connet camo out and began throwing rocks at tho sheep to drive them away, when young Linville camo up and orderflcd him to quit. After some quarrelingf'he two separated, Lin ville going to Turner and Connet starting toward his house and still throwing at the sheep. Turner see ing this, UM Linville if he would give him his pistol he (Turner) would go and make Connet stop. Turner took the pistol and followed Connet some distance, and when ho overtook him leveled the pistol and told Connet to quit rocking the sheep or ho would shoot. Connet dropped to his knees, drew his pis tol and shot, at tho same time knocking Turner's pistol out of his hand. Tho two men clinched, and Linvillo ran up and knocked Con net down, then Turner and Lin villo started for their camp, but Turner soon became exhausted and fell. lie died within a few hours after the shooting. The only wltne;s:s examined were Linvillo and Connet, the defendant, and their ctatements were substan tially tho same. After hearing the evidence Justice Bell discharged tho defendant. Turner wafj a comparative stran ger here, having herded sheep for several different sheep raisers tho county, but no ono seems to know much of him. It is not to be denied that a good sewing machine is one of the most important appurtances of the mod ern household. We thought we had a good ma chine until one day the agent of the New Home presented himself at our door and proceeded to deliver an oration upon its characteristic merits.
