It will be the occasion of the Pa c ific Northwest Negro Amateur Golf Tournament sponsored by the Leisure Hour Golf Club of Portland. Acocrding to the Presi dent of the club Vernon Gaskins, the tournament will get under way about 8:30 the morning of the 30th and all play will be con fined to the one day. The tournament will be held at the Eastmoreland Golf Course, 7000 S. E. 27th avenue, 27th and Eastmoreland and can be reached by the Eastmoreland bus from Taylor Street between 2nd and 6th avenue. Those driving to the golf links can reach the course by driving south on Union avenue The course is on the east side and it will be necessary to cross a viaduct to get in the park. Some of the best talent in the Northwest is expected to compete in the tournament with some players coming from as far east as Denver, Colorado. Seattle is well represented also with Shelby Ellis, Ben Beasley, Wylie Bill Paine and Frank Marshall rated the top-flight players. Portland will offer some stiff competition with such seeded players as Shel by Golden, Shelton Ellis, Walter Ricks and Stephen Wright. Play is expected to be close and the winners will be announced and prizes awarded the night of the tournament at Fraternal Hall about 10 o’clock. There is no admission charge to the tournament and the pub lic is invited. Play will continue until almost dark. The tournament committee members are Messrs. Walter Ricks, Shelby Golden and Cle- ophus Smith. The Handicap committee mem bers are Messrs. Vernon Gaskins and Eli Harris. Leading players from Denver are Pfc. George Taylor and Mr. Charles Gus Anderson.
