LOVELY VISITOR
Portland has again been honored
by the appearance of another visit
or to our fair city.
She is the
charming young Lorraine Taylor
who arrived a few weeks ago with
her mother, who looks more like
her sister, from New York. Miss
Taylor states that she likes Port
land very much and will hate to
leave. They will leave around the
last of August or the first of Sep
tember. We will be sorry to see you
leave also, but we’re glad you came
out here to pay us this visit any
how.
DANCE BIG SUCCESS
Mr. and Mrs. Willis Williams re
quest the pleasure of your com
pany at a small dance in honor of
Mrs. Cadence L. Hines and Mrs.
Sarah Hines on Tuesday evening
the eighth of August at nine o'
clock Woman’s Club Auditorium,
1220 S. W. Taylor St. i'ormal.
That is the way the invitation
read for the formal given by Mr.
and Mrs. Willis A. Williams for
Mr. Williams’ sister, Mrs. Cadence
L. Hines and her mother-in-law,
Mrs. Sarah Hines. The dance was
a big success with the fine music
of Joe Crane. As always the ladies
and gentlemen were looking as
charming and handsome as anyone
could possible look. Their breath
taking formals made everyone put
the F.llyw ood stars to shame. We
congratulate you, Mr. and Mrs.
Williams, your dance was a huge
success.

ROUND-TABLE DISCUSSIONS
A Practical Solution to tihe Race
Problem
By Angelo Herndon
A volunteer group of citizens
meet every Friday night, at Van-
port Recreation Center No. 2. At
the last meeting, held Friday, Aug.
11, Mr. Angelo Herndon was the
leading speaker.
Taking as his topic, “ A Practical
Solution to the Race Problem,” Mr.
Herndon held the interest o f his
audience. He spoke in no official
capacity, only in a desire to better
relations between various groups.
These discussions are o >en to the
public, and representatives of vari
ed occupation, usually attend. One
may see a plain workman from one
of the shipyards, ministers, school
teachers, and national figures.
