Volunteers help local seniors with cleanup project

McNary Oaks Mobile Home Villa
is one of Keizer’s 55+ communities,
and many of the residents have mobil-
ity issues which make it difficult for
them to get around their neighbor-
hood or do any recreation outside.
This need was identified years ago by
the McNary High School Latino Club,
who have been volunteering annually
to help.
More than 30 students from the
Latino Club joined forces with sev-
eral members of the Air Force Junior
Reserve Officer Training Corps
(JROTC), spending much of Friday,
April 1, cleaning up debris in the
neighborhood and generally improv-
ing the ability of the residents to get
around.
“We were able to help multiple
seniors in the park with their spring
cleanup,” said Ramiro Navarro, who
works with the Latino Club and is
also a military veteran. “It’s a greatly
appreciated annual event.”
A 2019 Keizertimes article on dete-
riorating conditions at McNary Oaks
led to large-scale repair and renova-
tions to the sidewalks, clubhouse and
other common areas by the California-
based property management company
which owns it.
McNary students from the Latino Club and Air Force JROTC teamed up for a cleanup project on April 1 at McNary Oaks Mobile
Home Villa.
