obituary
5, 1941 to Arthur J. Hellbusch and Ethel
V. Hellbusch (Lenaburg) in Watertown,
S. Dak. He passed away at the age of 80,
surrounded by his family, after a short
battle with Cancer.
Norm graduated from Watertown
High School in 1959 and was a member of
the Arrows state championship team that
year. If you met him, you most likely met
a friend, and trips to South Dakota were
always cherished. Moving to Oregon in
1960 he soon found Salem Golf Course.
It was there where many friendships
were made and competitions won. He
also maintained his love of sports on the
softball diamond and on the basketball
courts up and down I-5. The insurance
business became his career path and it
is where he stayed until his retirement.
Finding the love of his life, he married
Becky L. Barnes on September 14, 1968
in Salem, Ore. Sports continued to be a
focal point of his life and was so happy to
be able to coach his son, and daughters
in several sports. He was asked to referee
in the Pac 10 but turned it down to be
able to be with his family. He also took
great pride in coaching other kids in the

was a Beaver through thick and thin, and
later in life enjoyed being able to watch
his grandchildren play multiple sports.
Norm is survived by three children
and their spouses: Reid Hellbusch
(Salem), Kari and Chris Zohner (Salem),
and Molli and Tom Dutra (Issaquah,
WA); four grandchildren Tanner Dutra,
Drew Zohner, Maggie Dutra, and Cade
Zohner of whom he was incredibly
proud. Norm is also survived by three
brothers; Wayne Hellbusch (Minnesota)
Richard Hellbusch (Texas), David
Hellbusch (Bend, OR) and sister Marcia
Perkins (Colville, WA).
In lieu of flowers a donation can be
made to the Salem Sports and Breakfast
Club. A celebration of life will be held
at Salem Golf Club the weekend of Aug.
27th.
