Meet Keizertimes'
new city reporter
Charles Glenn
crossword
answers pg A23
My name is Charles Glenn, and my
first job as your newest Keizertimes
reporter is to introduce myself. I’ve
been living in the Northwest for
more than 30 years, primarily in the
Beaverton area. My wife and I raised
four daughters who are now either in
college or starting new careers.
I originally hail from Amarillo, Tex.,
but I’ve lived and worked all over the
world.
I obtained my degree in history
from Columbia College while serving
in the U.S. Navy as a photojournalist
and broadcast reporter at a NATO
facility in Iceland as well as on board
USS Tarawa (LHA-1) for two deploy-
ments to the Western Pacific and Red
Sea.
My final two years in the USN was
as an editor and reporter for a weekly
base newspaper at Naval Station
Everett, Wash.
I grew up with an appreciation for
traveling and exposing myself to dif-
ferent cultures and societies as well
as watersports such as sailing, diving
and snorkeling, so the Navy was a nat-
ural choice as a career and I enjoyed it
immensely. From seeing Petra, Jordan
up close to flying over the Baltic Sea in
a P-3 Orion, I’ve already got a lifetime
of treasured memories.
During my training and service as
a Navy journalist, I discovered an abil-
ity to put people at ease and get to the
important issues quickly, and that tak-
ing the time to listen to people with
compassion and genuine interest can
yield big results if your business is col-
lecting news.
Family challenges and my youngest
daughter’s medical issues prevented
me from a full career and retirement in
government service, but I was able to
take those skills and apply them to the
various industries I’ve worked in since,
including disability insurance, military
recruiting and retail sales.
You’ve been fortunate to have
the skills of Joey Cappelletti here at
Keizertimes for the past several months.
I’ll be taking over for him in covering
city government, the police depart-
ment and crime in the Keizer area. I’m
looking forward to getting out in the
community and meeting as many of
you as I can. I want to know what issues
you care about, what things you want
to read about, and how I can best serve
you as a reliable source of information.
I believe in presenting both sides of
any issue I’m covering. I already know
you don’t need my opinion, but I hope
to convince you that you do need my
skills to keep you well-informed about
your city.
Feel free to give me a call at 503-390-
1051 or email editor@keizertimes.com
if you have a story inquiry or just want
to introduce yourself. I hope to meet
you soon.
