making around this and we’ll take it in
a thoughtful and deliberate way.”
COVID cases within Salem-Keizer
schools have fallen in recent weeks
after peaking in early January. For the
week ending on Jan. 22, 712 students
and staff contracted COVID in Salem-
Keizer schools. Last week, that number
dropped to 61 students and staff .
While the rally was advertised as
being “not political and not anti-mask,”
it was widely advertised on the social
media pages of groups such as Timber
Unity and FreeOregon, an active
anti-vaccine and anti-mask group.
Angela Todd, the chief communica-
tions offi cer for FreeOregon, said the
group helped put the word out for the
rally. She said that even with the OHA
announcement yesterday, there are no
“guarantees” the mask mandate will be
lifted.

Art exhibit features
from farm to table
How We Grow Our Food, a collec-
tion of pieces by local artists, will be
displayed in the Keizer Civic Center
through March. The collection, illus-
trates diff erent fruits and vegetables,
along with where they come from.
Lorraine Dye is one of the artists
featured in the gallery display and
has been doing art for years. She took
art classes for a few months, but has
mostly been self taught.
While working a retail job, Dye
found her love for art and has been
exploring it ever since.
“I think that we all have stuff inside
of us that we haven't explored. And that
was the missing piece in my life,” she
said.
When it comes to art mediums, Dye
uses pastels on sanded paper for her
pieces. She enjoys painting vineyards,
fl owers, and has recently fi nished a
drawing of a dog, which brought Dye
a lot of joy.
Dye encourages anyone interested
in art to start exploring it as soon as
they can.
“You don't have to get real serious
about it, but take a class or two. If what
you think you want to do is too hard
then try a diff erent medium and at least
get a creative outlet for your artistic
adventure,” she said.
