Bowers
Dusty Bowers of Keizer did not make
it to the Showcase Showdown on CBS-
TV’s The Price is Right, but he came
home with prizes when he was called
to ‘come on down’ on the popular game
show fi lmed in Los Angeles.
Once he got to bidder’s row with three
other contestants, his guess on prizes
was the winner. He won a dishwasher val-
ued at more than $2,000. Once on stage
with host Drew Carrey he played Pick-a-
Pair which he won, garnering the prize
of a closet organizer and an assortment
of Michael Kors designer clothes and
accessories.
The game got more exciting as he
and two other contestants spun the big
money wheel for the chance to be one of
two fi nalists in the Showcase Showdown.
The contestant that lands on the most
money (up to $1) is a fi nalist.
Spinners are asked to say hello to
friends and family. Bowers said hello to
his nieces and to his friends, Jeremy and
Ginnie Green, as well as Reggie Miller,
a former NBA basketball star with the
Indiana Pacers. Miller reached out to
Bowers with a single word Facebook
post: “Baller.”
Dusty and the two other contestants
tied with the same amount — 95¢. In the
tie-breaking spin, Dusty was eliminated.
Dusty said his experience on The
Price is Right has changed his views of
competition. “I like to win,” he said. But
on the television show he realized that
everyone was rooting for everyone else.
“George Gray (the show’s announcer)
said, The Price is Right is where you root
for your opponent as much as yourself,”
Dusty said. “It changed my views on
games.”
The prizes won on the show are
shipped to the winners, they cannot be
exchanged for cash. Soon, a brand new
dishwasher, a closet organizer and a vari-
ety of designer clothes and accessories
will fi nd their way to their new Keizer
home. Bowers plans to share the wealth
and gift some of his winnings to family
and friends. For the show’s 50th anniver-
sary season all the contestants and audi-
ence members received an added prize of
a two-night stay at a Palm Springs casino
resort.

Where and how
do you volunteer?
"I have been a member of the Civil Air
Patrol for about 30 years, and fl y disaster
relief and damage assessment missions and
coordinate aircraft fl ying those missions.
Recently i was called to help with radio
communications at the fi re base for the
massive Bootleg Fire in southern Oregon,
and fl ew several aerial damage assessment
photo missions during the Santiam Canyon
wildfi res.
I also love being involved with volunteering
with the Keizer Chamber of Commerce,
whether it is helping put lights on the
Keizer Christmas Tree, distributing food
and gifts in the Keizer Giving Basket
program, and helping with lots of other
projects in our community with Men of
Action in Keizer (MAK)
I’m also involved with my church, Keizer
Church of Christ, I run various technology
and audio visual projects including the
service livestream we started in April of
2020 and continue to do every week so
those who can’t be with us physically can
still participate in worship."
How would you get
others to volunteer
in their community?
"I love giving back to the community and
I love to see a great project get completed
and know that I was able to help with that
in some small way. I see the good in the
things we do and the lives they make a
diff erence in and its very rewarding."
What does volunteering
do for you?
" I enjoy the camaraderie with other
volunteers and getting to meet new people
and work together for a common goal.
Some of the best memories I have are
through the volunteer work I have been
involved with and the friendships and sense
of accomplishment is very rewarding."

Ask with any of the organizations around,
or something that interests you, and
just get connected with them and the
opportunities will show up."
