Parks Master Plan approval
pushed to February
The Keizer Parks Advisory Board
held one its shortest meetings ever on
Tuesday, Dec. 14: 12 minutes.
With Dan Kohler fi lling in for city
council liaison Elizabeth Smith, and
all members in attendance, the board
heard reports of slight damage in some
city parks due to last week’s windstorm.
Parks Division Manager Robert
presented by
Johnson reported that the recently
completed Parks Master Plan needs
to be presented to the Planning
Commission before the plan is voted
on by the city council. The Planning
Commission will not meet again until
January, pushing fi nal approval of the
plan to February 2022.

Where and how do you
volunteer?
Being one of several who volunteer at
the Keizer Community Library, and
currently serving as President of the
Board of Directors, I work with a truly
dynamic and inspired team of people
providing a variety of library services
that support the entire Keizer
community. Those services include
programs that enhance reading skills
for children and adults, providing
computers and internet access
for community use, managing the
circulation of thousands of books
and DVDs to library card holders,
issuing free library cards to everyone
who applies, sorting hundreds of
donated books each year and many
other related activities. As a non-
profi t organization, we also spend
time meeting with business and
community leaders, patrons and
others raising the funding we need
each year to continue our community
support.

Why do you volunteer?
Volunteering for me is a powerful
way to give back. Even though it may
be a small way, I feel that supporting
the library and the services it
provides to the community allows me
to express, in a very personal and
real way, my appreciation for all the
community has provided me and my
family for over 40 years. It builds the
sense of community.

of the Week
Volunteering has been incredibly
rewarding for me. I get to meet a lot
of great people, make new friends, fi ll
my time with purpose and meaning
that goes beyond all the joy I get from
my family and it keeps me involved.
Volunteering has truly inspired and
enriched my life.
How do you get others to
volunteer in their community?

answers pg A20
It is always a personal decision that
each of us get to make. What I share
with others is the personal sense of
reward and connection I feel with my
eff orts. Hopefully that will inspire
others to reach out as well.
