"This event provides an opportunity for Salem area high school students and their families to engage with both colleges and industries in person,” said James McNicholas of Student Recruitment, Enrollment & Graduation Services at Chemeketa Community College. “These fi rst-time connections are mutually critical to building rela- tionships and determining the best fi t for students." High school seniors at Salem-Keizer high schools will have the opportunity to win one of several education schol- arships at the fair as well. The scholar- ships are possible thanks to a generous donation from Dutch Bros. This will be the fi rst time the event has taken place in two years after being cancelled last year due to COVID. In 2019, the event attracted over 2,000 visitors. Keizer Fire receives yearly clean audit review Oregon budget law requires governmental agencies to review all fi nancial con- trols annually for special districts, such as fi re districts. Keizer Fire District (KFD) has again received the highest review score of an “unmodifi ed opinion” which is the high- est positive auditor opinion they can off er, regarding the accuracy of the accounting and fi duciary responsibility, for a fi re district. Not only has the responsibility been met, KFD accounted for all fi nancial posi- tions regarding assets and liabilities and related public employee documentation recording. Using Governmental Accounting Standard Board rules (GASB) which were estab- lished in 1984, KFD utilizes the accounting fi rm of Grove, Mueller, & Swank, P.C. The KFD board of directors went over the auditor fi ndings in detail at their October 2021 monthly board meeting with the auditor and fi nancial committee for Keizer Fire. Kathy Wilson, CPA, who reviewed the audit summary to the board of directors, said that, “the fi re district fi nancial status and cash position are a direct result of good management decisions and good strong relationship with your community”. Keizer fi re baord president, Chet Patterson, who also is a CPA, added, “the impor- tance of good fi nancial records and recording regarding public funding, year after year, is vital in our public trust and refl ects directly on a good organization such as ours.” Patterson thanked Kathy Wilson and KFD staff for their attention to every detail.
