OCTOBER 22, 2021, KEIZERTIMES, PAGE A5 Salem-Keizer School Board approves acceptance of the donation for CTEC At its meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 12, the Salem-Keizer School Board of Directors voted unanimously to approve the acceptance of the donation for the building and land where the dis- trict operates its Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC). The center houses 10 of the district’s 54 career and technical education programs. The donation comes as a result of the innovative public-private part- nership between Salem-Keizer Public Schools (SKPS) and Mountain West Investment Corporation to provide more career and technical education opportunities for high school juniors and seniors across the district. “What started as a vision is now a truly remarkable opportunity for our community,” said SKPS superinten- dent Christy Perry. “Year after year, we have seen the impact CTEC has made on students who graduate with a competitive advantage as they enter the next chapter of their careers. Many go on to a trade school, university, or directly into high-skill, high-wage and high-demand careers.” CTEC fi rst opened in 2015 with the fi rst two programs: Manufacturing, Welding and Engineering and Residential Construction. Each year, the partnership was committed to grow the facility by two additional programs, and now, at its full capacity, serves nearly 700 juniors and seniors in 10 programs. “Our team at Mountain West is grateful for the partnership with Salem-Keizer Public Schools and look forward to watching students fl ourish through participation in the CTEC pro- grams,” said Jason Tokarski, vice pres- ident of Mountain West. “Our hope is that CTEC’s impact is felt in our com- munity for generations to come and we humbly thank everyone that came together to make it happen.” The decision from the board of direc- tors marks the next chapter in CTEC’s story as SKPS formally takes owner- ship of the property, which was previ- ously leased from SUNTEK Oregon, LLC and CRTCTEC, LLC. The district will continue to partner with Mountain West Investment Corporation, the busi- ness community and industry partners to provide students with robust CTE programs. Making the vision of CTEC a real- ity required ongoing collaboration and support from district, community and industry partners. A full list of past and current community leaders who played integral roles in preparing for this his- toric donation is available on SKPS website.
