KT brings home 29 awards
The Keizertimes won a total of 29
awards in two Oregon Newspaper
Publishers
Association
contests
announced via a virtual presentation on
Sept 9.
In the Better Newspaper Contest for
journalism, the Keizertimes won one fi rst
place award, six second place awards and
seven third place awards.
First place honors were awarded to
Matt Rawlings for Best Sports Story
about Tony Aicher, Keizer kids pay trib-
ute to their biggest fan.
Second place awards were presented
for:
• Best editorial,
• Best enterprise reporting, for stories
about city of Keizer’s computers being
hacked and held for ransom,
• Best coverage of business or eco-
nomic issue, Lauren Murphy, for her
reporting on Keizer restaurants aff ected
by COVID,
• Best sports story, Matt Rawlings,
McNary shocks West Salem in MVC
thriller,
• Best photo essay, an array of photo of
the delayed Class of 2020 graduation for
McNary High School,
• Best special section, Keizertimes
staff , 2020 Holiday Events and Gift Guide.
Third place honors were presented for:
• Best sports story, Volcanoes face
uncertain future,
• Best government coverage,
• Best graphics, ,
• Best feature photo,
• Best news photo, , Teachers on
parade,
•
Best
educational
coverage,
Maximizing the time given,
Best feature story, A run for his life,
Best feature, personality.
Staff members winning awards in
the news contest were Eric A. Howald,
Andew Jackson, Lauren Murphy and
Matt Rawlings.
In the Better Ad Ideas Contest for
advertising, the Keizertimes won three
fi rst place awards for production manager
Andrew Jackson including best black
and white ad for Boucher Jewelers, best
section cover for Health Wellness maga-
zine and best single house ad for a Thank
You fi rst responders ad after the wildfi res
of September 2020.
Jackson also won seven second place
and fi ve third place awards for advertising.
The two contests were judged by mem-
bers of the Arizona Press Association.

Bobbie ‘Bob’
Dale Ashlock
May 30, 1953 – Sept. 14, 2021
Bobbie (Bob) Dale Ashlock, 68, of Keizer
went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday,
September 14, 2021 after a two week battle
with pneumonia.
Bob was born May 30, 1953 to William
and Opal Ashlock in Galena, Kan. After
high school, Bob joined the United States
Army on June 10, 1970.
In the year 1971, Bob met Lesie and
they were married fi ve months later on
November 12th. They then went on to have
three daughters, Brandy, Sara, and Delcina.
Bob's fi rst job in the military was a
generator mechanic, but he quickly found a
love for cooking. After 16-years in the Army,
Bob medically retired as Staff Sergeant.
After his honorable discharge, Bob went
on to work for the Oregon Department of
Corrections until age 60, when he offi cially
retired.
Bob was a force of nature, determined
to provide for his family. He always went
above and beyond to show his love for
them. His family meant more to him
than anything in the world, something he
mentioned often. His love for his family
was selfl ess and unconditional.
Bob had a very extensive list of hobbies
that he enjoyed. He played the guitar,
assembled model cars, listened to music,

loved his adult coloring, gardening,
cooking, entertaining friends, and playing
with his seven grandkids. Bob was also a
very active and dedicated member of his
church. If Bob was not home, you would
often fi nd him camping or fi shing with
Lesie, family, and friends.
Anyone who knew Bob, knew that he
was the most loyal and loving father, friend,
and husband. Bob was predeceased by
his parents; and siblings, Loretta, Wilma,
Kate, and Billy Lee. He is survived by his
wife, Lesie; his three daughters, Brandy
(Cole), Sara (Kris), and Delcina (Alex);
his grandkids, Amber, Mackenzie, Nicky,
Jackson, Amelia, Eli, and Brody; and his
siblings, Roberta, Michael, Linda, and
Jackie.
A celebration of life for Bob will be held
Saturday, Oct. 2, at 2 p.m. at Countryside
Christian Church, 5775 McLeod Ln N,
Keizer, OR 97303.
