Local artist displays
Motorcyclist dies
after crash in Salem work at Keizer library
On Monday, Aug. 23, at approxi-
mately 10 p.m., Salem Police offi cers
were dispatched to the intersection of
Portland Road and Bill Frey Dr. NE on
the call of a three-vehicle collision.
The initial investigation deter-
mined two vehicles, a motorcycle, and
a Volkswagen sedan, were traveling
southbound on Portland Rd. at a high
rate of speed when they approached a
red light at Bill Frey Dr.. As the sedan
and motorcycle neared the intersec-
tion, a Chevy Tahoe entered to turn
northbound onto Portland Rd. from
Bill Frey Dr. The motorcycle and
Volkswagen failed to stop and collided
with the Tahoe.
Arriving offi cers found that the
driver of the Volkswagen sedan had
fl ed the scene.
The drivers of the Tahoe and motor-
cycle were transported to Salem Health
for treatment of their injuries. The
driver of the motorcycle, identifi ed as
Christopher James Martinez, age 30 of
Salem, died at the hospital.
The driver of the Tahoe was treated
by Salem Health for non-life-threaten-
ing injuries and is cooperating with the
investigation.
The Salem Police Department is
asking for the public’s help in identify-
ing the driver of the Volkswagen sedan.

The Keizer Community Library will
exhibit photographs by local artist Linda
Flicker, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 7,
when the newly remodeled facility, 980
Chemawa Road NE, reopens. The exhibit
is a continuation of the Library’s Meet
the Artist program that features local art-
ists on a rotating basis.
“All my work is created using the pho-
tographic technique of light painting, a
process that allows for the precise appli-
cation of light using a single source,”
said Flicker, a member of the Keizer
Art Association and Salem’s Artists in
Action. She displays her work at a variety
of Oregon locations and galleries.
