Friday, Aug. 13: Volcanoes 7
Senators 5
With the score tied at 5-5 in the bot-
tom of the eighth, Landen Barns hit a
two-run double down the left fi eld line
to propel the Volcanoes to a 7-5 victory.
Barnes had two doubles and a run
scored on the night while Kevin Jordan
Jr. went 4-for-5 from the plate in the
win.
An RBI-single by Jordan Jr. put the
Volcanoes up 1-0 in the bottom of the
second. The Senators responded in the
following frame as Edgar Vela tied the
game with a solo homer, but in the bot-
tom of the third, Salem-Keizer struck
for three runs to take a 4-1 lead.
After an RBI-groundout by Senators
second baseman Matt Lokken in the
top of the fourth made the score 4-2, a
solo homer from CJ Epperson in the
bottom of the fi fth put the Volcanoes
back on top by three runs.
In the top of the eighth, RBI-hits by
Tanner Cantwell and Danny Alvarado
allowed the Senators to come back and
tie the game at 5-5.
But with a runner on fi rst and two
outs in the bottom of the eighth, a dou-
ble by Jordan Jr. gave the Volcanoes
runners on second and third, setting
the table for Barns.
Instead of intentionally walking
Barns with a base open, Senators
pitcher Dustin Hamilton decided to
challenge the Volcanoes fi rst baseman
and ended up paying the price as Barns
came through with the go-ahead two-
run double.
Saturday, Aug. 14: Campesinos 7
Mavericks 6
Nicholas Prater hit a walk-off single
in the bottom of the 10th to give the
Campesinos the 7-6 victory over the
Mavericks.
Eric Whitfi eld led the way for the
Campesinos at the plate, hitting a pair
of doubles and driving in three runs.
A two-run double from Rick Phillips
in the bottom of the fi rst put the
Campesinos on top 2-0 early on. Back-
to-back RBI doubles from Whitfi eld and
Sergio Rey extended the Campesinos
advantage to 4-0 in the bottom of the
fourth.
Campesinos ace Colby Neely scat-
tered seven hits over fi ve innings with-
out surrendering a run. But when he
was taken out in the top of the sixth in
