Colby Nealy picked up his
league-leading 10th win of the year
after going seven innings and giving
up no runs on two hits while strik-
ing out eight. Rick Phillips and Eric
Whitfi eld each had four hits and three
RBIs in the win.
The game went scoreless for four
innings, but the Campesinos went off
for fi ve runs in the bottom of the fi fth,
thanks to an error, an RBI-double by
Phillips and a two-run homer from
Whitfi eld.
Phillips picked up two more RBIs
in the sixth inning to extend the
Campesinos lead to 7-0.
After scoring a run in the bottom of
the seventh, the Campesinos scored
fi ve runs on four hits in the eighth to
lead 13-1.
Saturday, Aug. 7: Volcanoes 10
Mavericks 4
Six Volcanoes players had multi-hit
games as Salem-Keizer evened up the
series by beating the Mavericks 10-4.
Jared Bell picked up his second vic-
tory of the year, pitching six innings
and giving up two earned runs while
striking out seven. Gabriel Cotto went
3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs in
the victory.
The Volcanoes scored in the fi rst
four frames to take a 6-0 lead before the
Mavericks responded with two runs in
the top of the fi fth on an error.
But in the bottom half of the frame,
Landen Barns and David Kyriacou
each had RBI-doubles to help extend
the Volcanoes lead to 9-2, putting the
game out of reach.
Sunday, Aug. 8: Volcanoes 10
Mavericks 8:
The Volcanoes had 16 hits on
the night in their 10-8 win over the
Mavericks to pick up the series win.
Kevin Jordan Jr. led Salem-Keizer with
a 4-for-5 day at the plate.
RBI-hits by Landen Barns and
David Kyriacou gave the Volcanoes a
2-0 advantage after the fi rst inning.
Jordan Jr. got in on the action in
the second inning with an RBI-triple to
extend the Volcanoes lead to 3-0.
The Mavericks got one back in the
top of the third on an RBI-groundout
from Matt Holiday. But in the fi fth
frame, the Mavericks got their fi rst lead
of the game thanks to a solo homer
from Leomar Jiminez and back-to-back
RBI-groundouts by Drake Zarate and
Julian Hunt.
In the bottom of the fi fth, however,
the Volcanoes responded with three
runs of their own to take a 6-4 lead.
The Volcanoes extended that lead to
10-4 thanks to four runs in the bottom
of the sixth, highlighted by a two-run
blast by Nick Adgar.
A two-run homer by Zarate in
the top of the seventh brought the
Mavericks within four. Then, in the
top of the eighth, Rodny Rodriguez
and Andrew Castano were each hit by
a pitch with the bases loaded, making
the score 10-8.

But closer Jake Lialios came to the
hill in the top of the ninth and pitched
a 1-2-3 inning to pick up his second
save and conserve the victory for
Salem-Keizer.
Sunday: Aug. 8: Campesinos 4
Senators 0
Although the Campesinos had an
off -day at the plate, their pitching staff
picked up the slack,
Austin Crowson, Andrew Baxter and
Luke Laurita threw a combined two-hit-
ter as the Campesinos defeated the
Senators 4-0 to earn the series sweep.
The Senators did draw fi ve walks,
but only got one runner into scoring
position for the entire game.
Nick Ybarra, Collin Runge and Eric
Whittfi eld each hit solo homers in the
win.
